I notice the lower jaw bone is missing, is that standard procedure ?
I have always done my own and when required for mounting for myself I have always cut the long nose through the eye socket and discarded the jaw bones. However when I did some for a German friend he insisted that I keep the lower jaw bone to enable anybody to inspect the third pre molar to compare wear against the size of the antler to give a better idea of age.
I didn't fancy doing any myself recently so got a Taxidermist to do four heads for me. I asked him to do the heads, no other instruction but assumed the jaw bones would be part of the head so I could pass them to my German friend.
When I collected them the jaw bones were missing and was told i didn't ask for them so I ended up with four lovely white clean skulls, no good for the German market so ended up cutting them long nose for my shields and have given them to a farmer friend.
This them before cutting.
