20 inch vs 24 inch tikka 6.5 creedmoor

Isn’t that true of any cartridge?
Bigger heavier bullets don’t frange (If that’s a word) as easily as smaller lighter built ones and therefore ricochet easier, so I would think bigger more damaging if coming into contact with unintended things.

Ah!

I understand now - more to do with the bullet.

Correct - why get a cartridge that by design is supposed to have a long barrel and send a 140g bullet north of 3k fps. In my mind, it doesn't add up. I get why someone may want to reduce barrel length but the reality is, 4 inches of barrel weigh an extra sod all if weight is the concern.

I've currently got a 20 and a 24 inch barrel on two rifles, none cause me any drama. The rem mag had a 26 and a long moderator which probably added another 7 inches. Still, no dramas with it.

I once saw a mum in a pickup truck dropping her kids off at school. Why drive a pickup if you’re not going to put stuff in the cargo bed?

4” isn’t always about weight, it’s about getting in and out of a truck 30 times with the rifle.

Very bad practice accident just waiting to happen.
😂😂😂

Do you walk to wherever you shoot?
How’s it breathing all the way up there next to God?

Rifle is in an unloaded condition when getting in and out of truck and no more dangerous than a stick, albeit more expensive.

I also wear Velcro boots as you’ll no doubt agree on the significant risk posed by boot laces…

And if you read the post it also says about length 👀

There's also no point owning a pick up if it ain't got a purpose other than road presence... Waste of money 😂

Bullet weight shouldn't be the primary (or secondary/tertiary etc!) factor when it comes to considering ricochet risk.
Bullet construction and geography should be...

IMO a 20" 6.5 needs to be run with 120 or less to be producing sensible MVs
much over that and the velocity drops significantly
I personally don't see the point of running a 147gr at 2450fps...

the 24" works better with the heavier bullets but you sacrifice portability

I run a 6” can/mod so I chose a 20” CM. With handloads it’s about 2650 FPS with 143 ELDX. The bullet hits minimum terminal velocity 1800 FPS at 700 yards.

20” is easier to handle and lighter with more than enough power for loooong range.

Next question, light rifle (T3x lite) or slightly heavier (CTR) ??

I have also read you can swap the factory bottom metal back to plastic on a CTR so you get the mid weight / semi heavy barrel with the hunter magazine and lighter weight.

From those i would get ss with fluted barrel and bolt. Maybe Ace if you will shoot always from rest or tripod. Ace is over 4kg just gun. Add scope and rings and you are at 5kg. For me that is too much for hunting rifle. 20 inch will be enough for hunting in most situations.
