22 arc

Evening all looking for a lightweight foxing rifle was walking about with already got 17 h 22250 and 243was originally going to get another 204 but after looking I think that trains left the station judging by the second market being dead for them but saw a 22 arc round in the flesh yesterday and has really peaked my interest if anybody has had much to do with them as there still quite new can these be rebarrels on a t3 donor action ? And is it possible to get decent brass for it also will be looking to run between 50-80 grain bullets will a 1/7 twist be a bit to much for a 50 grainer

An associate has on in a ruger ranch rifle and I have to say, the action is nowhere near as slick as a Tikka, it comes with a spiral fluted barrel and a comfy stock. It shoots exceptionally and was about £800. He is shooting 80gr plus weight bullets and as you have identified it’s a lovely little case.

As for re-barrelling a Tikka you would need to use a .223 and have the bolt face opened up. Not sure what magazine would be best. Probably a 22-250 magazine.

1-7” will shoot 50gr bullets. Don’t let people say it’s too fast.

It’s a niche round here, brass isn’t easy to get. I’m not sure where he got it from. But for me, 22-250 would be the easy option.

Thanks scotch egg I know it quirky but do like to be different he seen people necking down 6.5 grendal which you can get in lap brass have also thought about maybe a howa mini action 1500 or finding a small action 527 to rebarrel like I said I’ve had 204 250 etc and like them all but looking at the figures your get out of such small powder charge is quite attractive

It does appear an efficient cartridge. Just like the 6mmbr.

I have one.

Absolutely love it.

22” 1:7 Pendragon barrel on a T3 action.

6.5 Grendel brass necked down.

We didn’t really know where to start with loading it, so did some guess work based on .22 BR loads. The very first group I shot went into a single hole. I can’t shoot any more accurately. Gets 3650fps with 52gr eldm.

It is extremely easy to shoot, and flattens roe deer.

I can’t recommend it strongly enough.

I have just taken possession of what may be the first .22 ARC in Scotland, and probably one of quite a small handful in the UK.

It’s a remarkable thing. No brass yet available, so @Edinburgh Rifles made some from 6.5 Grendel cases, and then did some educated guesswork based on 22BR loads to come up with a load. Below was the VERY FIRST GROUP I shot at 100m. 52gr eldm bullet, from a 22” Pendragon 1:7 barrel.

[The apparent flier to the right of the target was from the initial shots at 50 to get it roughly zeroed. The main group by my thumb is 3 shots. I can’t shoot any better than that].

But can you get Lapua 6.5G brass? The company's website has shown this case as being one of its suspended products for the last three years (since shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine). Just checked and this is what it still says today:

Due to the continued high product demand and the prevailing market conditions impacted especially by the Ukraine situation, the availability of some of our products is unfortunately limited and delivery times have become extended. To better serve our civilian and military obligations, some of our components will be temporarily suspended from production, including the 6.5 Grendel.

There is still some floating about.

I was quite taken by the 22 arc... so much so that Ive had the variation done and purchased 22 arc dies. I've since however decided to go a different route so if you fancy some unopened hornady dies at a good price drop me a message. I also know a gun shop that has hornady 22 arc brass in.

My license is in for renewal at the moment and I've asked for 22 creedmoor.

I've been pondering this calibre as a rebarrel for my sainted .222 T3......later next year.

Midwest Shooters Supply do Hornady brass at $85 dollars per 100......and Peterson brass around a dollar a case. They also offer a service that can sort all the stuff/paperwork around export licences if needed. Not sure if brass requires that, but reassuring to know they will do it.

I've bought 6mm BRA dies off them previously and they were very helpful. Cost me an extra $12 for their international service, and they choose/research best shipping methods for you.

All you will need to do then is pay VAT/customs element if it gets stopped.
