22 Hornet AI

Thanks for that, But it will be Winter before I would do the work. And I've got the variation to get first. I might have to sell my CZ 511 in bits, because the two magazines I've got are worth more than I was offered for the rifle previously.
The rifle is worth £50 with the magazine, the magazine is worth £50 without the rifle.

I bought the predecessor the BRNO 581 for the magazine, in that I paid the RFD to break the rifle and I had all of the non licenced parts that I then sold on bar the magazine. I then sold the parts on for a profit.

Cracking little guns, wish I still had mine!

A normal Hornetised rabbit has some mush where the head was and maybe a couple of bits of ear flapping about. If you want to eat them or pass them over to someone who does you really do have to go with headshots and tolerate some bruising.
That's assuming ultra thin jacketed stuff or V-Max equivalents.
Mine replaced a .17hmr, but if you want a pretty carcass the good old .22lr takes some beating.
I would say headshots at 125yds with the Hornet is what I aim for. I don't get them all, but I like the idea that a miss is a miss whereas just catching them normally results in a kill.
It is my favourite calibre to shoot but it drives me mad working up a load most of the time.
Really? Anything I tried over 12.9 gr of lil gun (work up folks, safe in my rifle not in yours) shot around 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch with no playing around.

Head shots on bunnies out to about 160 yards easily achievable.

I would say that the European hunters have a .224 bullet for small game that is non destructive. I've been looking on a couple of websites and some US citizens' hunt for fur and don't want explosive varmint bullets. It's just finding the right bullet.

Love the Myford ML7 by the way. The one I have has sat too long in a damp garage since I bought it and work kept me off playing with it. So I am looking at a complete strip and rebuild. I do have a Myford new unused vertical slide though.

Hi,
Mines not an ML7 but a gearbox super seven with a 31inch bed. I too haven't got time to go on it. I was stuffed last winter because it was too cold to go into the workshop and I couldn't afford the electricity. If Labour get in, maybe everybody including heavy industry will benefit from lower energy prices.

If liebour get in cheaper electric will be the last of our worries!
I'm done here, this guy knows everything he needs.
We are likely to fall out now, but the Toff nosed lot tried to flood me several times through planning applications and still are doing.
Rock On,
Warp Toad.

Stainless too. Would be a real shame to break it up. If I could think of a reason for a 5th .22 I’d have it off you!
It's not stainless its nickel plated and subs only. But it probably only needs the recoil spring changing to shoot higher velocity. If you could get one. I have 2 magazines and a Parker Hale silencer with spare baffles. Although I use that on a Brno 2E. I wouldn't sell the scope I've only just bought it.
I wouldn't try to own 5 rimfires. That's the main reason I'm thinking of selling the CZ 511, so I can get another variation.

It’s not subs only, they did the standard model which wouldn’t cycle subs and the subsonic which cycles everything.

I shoot with 2 target clubs, so have Donnie’s for target and rimmies for rabbits.

LBP, lever action, AR15 clone semi auto and a lovely BSA century bolt action in .22.

plus a bolt action and semi auto .22 WMR. So 6 rimmies in total currently.

I've enough on with what I've got. I don't actually like replica military rifles maybe because I've never been a soldier. I couldn't fit in target shooting I'm too busy in the garden with the veg. Thanks for your reply.

There’s always time for more shooting!

I like lever actions too, I’ve got one in .22, one in .357 and one in the mighty 45-70, even though I’ve never been a cowboy 😉.

I suspect that is after I sent him a k hornet case for his brass collection recently……

I’m not suggesting anything, other than there’s not enough in it to bother.

As for things being challenging, I like to keep it as unchallenging as possible when it comes to shooting live quarry.
25 Sharps - absolutely spot on! your kind donation of the 22 K Hornet case got me thinking, when I had my barrel threaded the chap mentioned he had a K Hornet reamer, should have got him to spin it up at the same time - doh!
Its a bit of a trek to go back to him, so need someone near Bath, Somerset who has a reamer and knows how to use it.
Otherwise I will just carry on with it as standard hornet.

Like I've said before I don't want any more rifles. The garden uses up most of my time. However I also have a Brno 2E which is fitted with a Timney trigger and has a shortened barrel. I was hoping to fit it into a Boyd stock with pillar bedding, but the action holes don't line up with the stock holes. I hope to do this job in winter, hoping that electricity prices are reasonable at that time. I have a CZ 550 .243, which I have Devcon bedded myself and is doing at best 11/16ths inch with Sako factory ammo. I also have a Ruger Mk1 mod 77 in 30.06, the cartridges of which are loaded with a compressed charge of 61.5 grains of H4831. It kicks me nowadays, and you can't get the powder anymore so I was hoping to reduce the load. I was hoping to use IMR 4064 but you can't get that now. The Ruger has never been modified apart from a Timney trigger from new. It doesn't need to be, it will do 3/4 inch groups. It's got a button rifle barrel, but I suspect that the chamber dimensions are tight because it is very noisy.
I bet your 45-70 kicks, but it would be good for Grizzly in the Elders.

That is almost identical to the charge of h4831 I use in my .280, from memory I’m at 62.5 grains.

That thumps but nothing like the 45-70, shot a munty doe with it this evening, it didn’t go far! That’s loaded with a very similar charge of 8208 XBR but under a 300 gr jacketed hollow point. I also have a couple of nice accurate 300 and 405 gr cast loads that don’t thump nearly as much for gallery use.
