Guys
I've just gone up to a 22 hornet, using Hornady factory 35 grn v max rounds sub .75 of an inch at a 100 yds

I now have some cases to use for reloading, the rifle is a Annie 1730 23" barrel ( normal length )
any ideas or thoughts on preferred primers, propellant and bullet type.

its for short range foxes, ideally like the round not to exit in an ideal world

Any thoughts or experience on loading would be appreciated

cheers

phil

A Hornady 35 grain VMax, 13.0 Lil Gun. Federal or CCI Small Pistol Primers.

This has become a standard load for thousands of 22 Hornet shooters. Forty grain VMax give better down range performance but in many Hornets they won't fit in the magazine without some work. Still, I use 34 and 35 grain bullets out to 250 yards on very small targets.~Muir

I totally agree with muir, i took my first hornet loading advice from him and never looked back.

I use 44grn cast bullets (lyman mold) with gas checks and h110 powder (load data from lyman cast bullet handbook)with cci small pistol primers and get great results, casting your own may not be for you but I find it is a great way to go and cheap as chips, i got great info from Muir when i started he is a very knowledgable guy on all things hornet, among other reloading subjects
best of luck

The three top powders for Hornet that I've tried are Lil Gun, H110 / Win 296, and Accurate Arms 1680. Lil Gun has the least pressure and where I hunt, the least affects from heat. You just can't go wrong loading it. It fills the case. Accuracy is superb.

Accuracy wise, the best recorded accuracy I've had has been with 1680 and the 35 grain Hornady VM combo but it gets peaky, pressure wise.

Highest Velocity has been with H110 but it ate brass at an alarming rate.~Muir

Hi I use 13g or 13.5g lil gun cci pistol primer & Speer 45g or 40g bullets. There great in the Cz 527 mag as a short dumpy bullet. I used 35g v-max also with same load but really like the 45g Speer. You need to drop the lil gun powder slow to get 13.5g in but it dose take it in the case.
