No sure what to buy?? I’ve a .22 wmr here that I use a bit but the it’s noisy ( ish ) but I don’t mind overly but I don’t find it very accurate past 120 yards really ?? I’m trying to decide whether to go back to the .22 lr and keep the wmr for things that I need it for or buy a .17 hmr to get a bit more distance and use the wmr as a soupe up .22 lr if you get me?? Does the .17 still have bother with cases splitting? I had one 10 years ago and can mind if an odd bullet getting stuck up the barrel after dodgy firings! I’m just no blooming sure what to get😂 any opinions appreciated 😊

22LR and a scope that does ballistic calculations
With that combination you can shoot almost as far as a 17HMR, have less issues with the wind and save a fair bit on ammo costs

I did think about putting a alpex 4k lrf on a .22 lr actually to get me out there? What do you think penetration would be with the .22 lr at say 200 compared damage the .17 hmr does?

I swapped my HMR for a Hornet, then swapped again for a .17 Rem. I really regret selling the hornet. So easy and cheap to reload for and excellent performance for what it is. I’d always have a .22LR!

A 40 grain subsonic 22LR bullet has around 59ftlbs of energy at 200 yards
A17 grain 17HMR bullet has about 72ftlb of energy at 200 yards
Either has more than enough energy to kill a rabbit size target at 200 yards

Had both 22lr and HMR only kept the HMR, laser flat no hold over/under on rabbits 40-140 yds. Plus I have never had an issue with ammo and split cases ( For context I have not spent much time looking for them either!)

.22LR with subsonics for covert missions
.17HMR for rimfire vermin shooting, especially at night
.22WMR for a semi automatic
.17-.22CF for long range vermin sniping during the day
Then you get into fullbores 😎

You can’t regret selling a gun that is still in your cabinet. Ok I’ve got three cabinets and would happily buy another to fill.
