.223 73gr ELD-M recipe.

What load are folks using for 73gr ELD-M’s and what speeds are you getting out of a 20” barrel?

I’ll be using Lapua brass, Magtech 7 1/2’s and can go with N140 or Varget (I have enough to last me a while in 223), was thinking 21-25gr range in the N140 (I couldn’t find a 73gr ELDM on Vhit’s data) and 21-23gr for Varget (from Hodgdon’s data)

What do folks reckon? Not looking for yahoo speeds, just something consistent to 6-700 yards for gong bashing and targets.

I'm running 75gr eldm at 24.5gr n140 with magtech primers out of GGG Brass with .5moa groups

Any reason you went with the 75’s over the 73’s Ashcroft?

I used as follows from a 20” Tikka barrel. Appreciate you’ve said N140, so it may be of no help.

Case: Norma
Primer: Federal 205
Powder: N135
Weight: 23.9gr

That gave around 2,810fps

Any reason you went with the 75’s over the 73’s Ashcroft?

At the time just got a good deal on some and worked so stuck with them. Might try some of the heavier ones at some point

I have heard that these need to be seated at mag standard AR mag length (which is what they were designed for). I had some, but could never get them to shoot as well as the 75gr ELDM's, but I think I had a bad/crappy lot.

Hornady has been putting our some really crap bullets lately, so who knows...
