22WMR intermittent itch that needs scratching

I have an intermittent itch in the way of a Guncraft 22WMR semi. Do I scratch it, or will it get worse?

I intend to use it for plinking at the range and for rabbiting. On a serious note, as the ground dries up I tend to leave the 22LR in the cabinet (ricochet risk) and prefer 17HMR and 22WMR.

Any owners out there with feedback? Does it run 30gr CCI 2200FPS or am I limited to 40gr as per the manual?

Scratch it, as I did ! 😁
Just ordered on, 4 weeks lead time.
Hopefully the variation will come through in time.

Big question is what glass to put on top…
Dot or LPVO ?

I looked into a wmr a while back and came to the conclusion it's inherently less accurate than the HMR.

Especially in semi auto form of course.

I may be wrong ? Perhaps newer rounds have brought it up to HMR accuracy ?

It's funny some consider it a near defunct calibre. Others love it and the ammo doesn't seem to have shot up in price like the HMR has.

WMR and HMR still bounce!
I'm not going to comment on the rifle 😬
You're right, chap, but the 22LR as you probably know will do it's best to find the one and only stone in a field and I do all I can to reduce the risk. 17HMR is my preferred on rabbits, when I'm not sound-restricted.

I have had my Guncraft AR15 in .22WMR for a few months now, so heres my tuppence worth.
Did not cycle reliably with 30gr ammo, it is made clear when you recieve the rifle that the bolt carrier group and return spring are set up for 40gr and above.
I now run it with a mod if after live quarry, and although I have settled on Hornady 45gr critical defence ammo, because it expands so well, I wonder if it might cycle better with the 30gr due to the slight added back pressure created by the mod. Not really a concern for me, the 45gr suits me just dandy. I did try CCI 40gr gamepoints but found them 'hard' and was not convinced I was getting any expansion.
I use it on the range and it will group just over an inch at 100m. Certainly good enough.
Its not hard to clean, I use a toothbrush which will scrub the bolt face, chamber face and mag well without stripping down. Stripping down for a thorough clean is easy, this is an AR15 in all respects apart from being recoil not gas operated.
I have a 4-12x40 scope on it with 22 WMR reticle, but occasionally pop a red dot on there for short range work.
Any questions, have at it, but that just about covers it really.

Absolutely.
One of my favourite HMR rounds is the CCI 20gn fmj. Stonkingly fast and surpringly effective but wangomatic!

I'm with you, my 17HMR RPR is my go-to rifle and I like the challenge of bringing foxes in closer than I would with my centrefires.

Most of my rifles are set up with NV sights, N450, C50 and Alpex and I fancy having something that's more focused on range plinking and occasional rabbits now the nights are drawing out. I'd fit a glass optic and get the F455 out the cupboard.

The itch is still there so watch this space.

I have the same itch and I think I am going to scratch it when I close my next deal!!

The hmr is a good rifle but useless in the wind. Plus a semi auto ar15 wmr is likely to bring a smile to my face!!

Most articles give the HMR approx 30% less windrift than the WMR at 100 yards.......

Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong ?

The BC of the WMR seems to really let it down

I have heard of this.
But not really experienced it to make the cartridge ineffective.
I mean if it's windy it's difficult to shoot with anything so you drop the distance anyway, no?
Anything more than a gnats fart and it’s off! Don’t get me wrong, on a still day it’s a tack driver but when it’s not then you may as well just throw the ammunition at your target, esp if it’s 100+m

I guess it depends on your target size but nope I don't find it as bad as you suggest. I think it's better than WMR and LR in this regard.
