I have got two Tikka .243's. One 1:8 and one 1:10 twist rates.
Very happy with Sako 80gn Blade through the 1:8. Used it for a long time.
Trying Winchester 85gn Extreme Point and Wapity 85gn Hollow Point at the moment.
Anyone any experience of these last two in the field?

I'm using Wapiti in my 1:10 .243 and they are brilliant on live stuff even at long range.

I've tried the Sako Blade but they don't meet the energy requirements to be deer legal in my rifle.

The Winchester Extreme point are good on paper, haven't tried them on live quarry.

I use Wapiti home loads in my 1in10 T3X, very impressed so far

Hi @Shootgun is that in a Tikka by any chance? Have a Tikka .243 super varmint from some years back and it’s 1:10 so was wondering if it would be wrong twist for lead-free.

No, is a Sauer 505.
Tell you what, if you care to collect, i can give you a few rounds of Sako Blade, Hornady CX , Winchester Extreme point and Wapiti , to try in your Tikka. (all lead free of course)

I’ve been running Winchester 85gr extreme point lead free alongside federal 85gr lead free hollow points in my 243s over the last 18 months. Only shot roe with the former, and mostly roe with a few reds with the federal. Found the winchesters grouped around 1” to in my blaser r93 barrel and sauer 100. Found they hit hard, expanding well (sometimes a bit too well resulting in quite a bit of damage if shoulder shot within 100m). They also seem to expand more reliably at lower impact velocities (range) than the federal. On the flip side the federal are more accurate in both barrels (0.3 to 0.75” groups) but their poor bc means they are quite susceptible to wind drift - my plan is to use my remaining federal up throughout the rut before trying out the Hornady 80 gr cx. All beasts shot within 200m - most 60m to 170m and sample size of around 24.

I’m going to take my .243 up in a week and try out the 80.5gr Yew Tree’s. It’s only a 18” barrel but I’m getting 3150fps so around 1770 ft-lbs - very accurate and looking forward for trying them.

Hi Jagged77,
could you tell me what powder you used for this load please ?
(All routine disclaimers will apply)
cheers, Tedward.
