Chromed Winchester - rubbish for reloading ! Get some good quality virgin brass
It was the colour of the bullet he was referring to I think, not the colour of the cartridge case.Chromed Winchester - rubbish for reloading ! Get some good quality virgin brass
The bullets are black.Look like Hornady V-Max bullets..................
Now that is interesting….I have tried this in my .243 and put them over 2 different chronos, they do not achieve the minimum muzzle energy to be deer legal, apart from CWD and muntjac.
I think the bullets will be these:The bullets are black.
I’ve never seen black vmax!
Ken.
I think you’re right.I think the bullets will be these:
Ballistic® Silver Tip Bullets
Nosler's Combined Technology Ballistic Silvertip bullet takes Nosler's Ballistic Tip technology for accuracy, penetration, and controlled expansion; and combines it with Winchester's Lubalox black oxide coating process to make every shot you fire easier on your barrel.www.nosler.com
Now that makes me do some thinking...I have tried this in my .243 and put them over 2 different chronos, they do not achieve the minimum muzzle energy to be deer legal, apart from CWD and muntjac.
You misunderstand my comment. My meaning was that, when shooting at deer, I hope we all try to make it one-shot-one-deer matter. Shooting at targets is a good way to help that happen, of course. Not really. Quite a few on here shoot at targets regularly
I don’t . The only time a target is used is for a small zero session
Now that is interesting….

I think the V-Max bullets age. I don't use them often and I can remember them having red tip originally IIRC and not as dark. Reckon these are 30 years old! Brought back from a trip to Hill AFB, Utah..................
Those are that colour because they are Moly coated.I think the V-Max bullets age. I don't use them often and I can remember them having red tip originally IIRC and not as dark. Reckon these are 30 years old! Brought back from a trip to Hill AFB, Utah..................
Thanks for the figure's Shootgun. I don't possess a chrono.Don't get me wrong, i love the Sako Blade in my .270, hence it was the first ammo to try in the .243, but they weren't up for the job.
I put them through a Garmin chrono at first, and after seeing the poor results, i borrowed my mate's FX for the avoidance of doubt. They barrely pushed 1500 ft/lbs !
I really wouldn’t worry about it and would happily use them. Wether your getting 1400ftlb or 2500ftlb would have very little bearing on the efficacy, since they are a mono they will expend a tiny fraction of that energy on the deer and the majority of it on your backstop. Thanks for the figure's Shootgun. I don't possess a chrono.
