25-06 loads

Does anyone reload for 25-06 with 85g noslers?

Looking for a powder - I have some reloader 19 and n160 ….

My barrel is only 20” long and wondered if a slightly faster powder might benefit with the shorter barrel and lighter bullets?

I’m looking for as much speed as I can get?
I know a 24” is optimal but I’d like to wear this one out first!

Thanks

Jamie

What length barrel have you got
Mine is a factory remi 24” mate,I’m certainly not pushing that load though so I would think in a 20” I would be around the 3300 mark, I could go a faster powder like a rs60 and it would really shift. The rs60 might be a better option for you actually?

No idea on the loads but I hear Alliant has ceased civilian supply. I wouldn't be developing a load with RL anything unless you have a lot of it!

That's the problem, I get astonishingly good results with reloader 22, with both 100 and117 gn bullets, but now it's not going to be available, I do get, however excellent results with n160, and have some n165 to try, stick at it, .25-06 is a terrific chambering 👍

Within the last month we have received a shipment of Alliant powder here in NZ. It is harder to find than previously but it is still being supplied.

According to the Nosler 9th Edition reloading manual Reloader 19 is not only the fastest powder but also the most accurate powder with their 85 grain BT projectile.

Their velocity at the max load was 3600 fps from a 24" barrel. With your 20" barrel I would expect a loss of between 120 and 150 fps.

Although I tried Rel 19 in three of the five 25-06 rifles I reload for I found that Rel 22 and Rel 23 produced more accurate loads when using 100 grain Sierra and Nosler projectiles.

According to the book with reloader 19 and 110 accubond I am losing 100 ft per second per inch!
When I changed my barrel from a 24" to a 22" on my Sauer 202 I lost 40 fps total. That is with Rel 23 and Sierra 100gr Gameking.

Berger state in their manual that the 25-06 averages 34 fps per inch loss or gain from a standard 24" barrel.

Is the 100 fps per inch that you mention what you actually have measured compared to what the manual says you should achieve?
