.270 reloading

I've got two sweet loads for my 270 54.5gn and 57.5gn N160 for 2680 and 2850 fps, cci 200 primer and 130 gn Hornady interlock. The barrel is only 20" hence slower than expected speeds. I wouldn't want to go much hotter than the higher load. I am also finding that the rifle likes 54.5gn with barnes ttsx 130gn for an estimated 2700 fps. They kill deer humanely, the ttsx seem expand nicely on muntjac which is a bonus for me I have to go non toxic at one place I shoot.

I found two nodes for my load too. One at 54 grains and one at 59, so it looks as though we're in the same ballpark. Interesting that the 130 Barnes work well at that speed. I'll be moving to copper at some point, and I'll also need to change from my beloved H4831 so this is really useful, thanks :thumb:

Perfect, thanks!

Just what I’m after, glad to know it’s the right ‘ball park’.

Definitely going to have to do this. Currently I’ve loads of photographs of targets saved on the phone

Thanks, appreciate the number. I’ve no chrono. The app suggest that the full 58 grains would give around 3,1000. Maybe 56 will be somewhere in the 2,700 range

Good to have a backup to the backup!

Great, seems to be the 54-56 grains is the common theme. I’m sure for 100fps here and there it won’t make any odds on the deer but it’s nice to know you’re in the optimum area.
The viht app looks good for recording and storing data

I have just come back from firing my .270 non- lead test rounds as I work up to lead free this year. I found today before reading your post that 54.5grns of Viht N160 loaded over a CCI 200 primer was giving me excellent groups.
