30-06 case?

I'm trying to save a few quid by making a bore guide for cleaning my Parker hale .308.
i have some plastic pipe that would fit over the rear end of a .308 case, but obviously this would stop me sliding the case into the chamber.

wondering how much longer a 30-06 case is, am I right in thinking it should fit into the chamber with some sticking back (so I could sleeve the tube over this part of the case)?

most importantly, anyone got a couple of cases they would be willing to let me have:D

thanks a load,

mike

yes it will fit and you can use a 308 case if you want

I made one with a .270 case and held the hose on with fine wire squeezing the tube into the extractor groove.
then just trim the flared edge down

think how much of the case sits in the face of the bolt? enough to hold in a hose
also benefits from a flared neck to provide a slightly tighter fit.
I cut a small square out of the side for adding solvent to patch once loaded in the tube

£18!
cost me 18p

good picture and does demonstarte the idea very well, is it a simple static fit or glued on ?

I use the wooden A.J. Parker type of chamber guides. Busy trying to have a batch made up...

The 30-06 case idea is a good one though!

My god how did we ever get on before we had things made for us? Ohh yeah we improvised.

Nice one Edd.

Was it welding wire by any chance?

very astute.
0.6mm mig welding wire IIRC

be aware if you are anally retentive about cleaning you will sometimes get false positives for copper with solvent as it can strip some out of the brass.
sure a squirt of aerosol lacquer in the case before use would solve that though

personally I dont care, it just save me dribbling solvent everywhere and fighting to keep patches on!

Friend asked for one, have an idea how to improve it will post pics when done!

Mr Bloggs, you have worked a little charm there. My Krico is going to be as grateful as I am for that! THANKS, you're a genius :D

that is just plain overkill!
where is the twisted wire and glue, and you dont get to see the patch going down the tube......:D

looks nice though

If it wasn't for me I would agree that it's overkill ;)
JB - Can you please fit a window to see the patch, and please make sure its double glazed and ideally leaded panes as well. HA HA HA HA
