looking for a bit of advise from some of the experience deer stalkers, recently bought a sauer 101 gti in 308 for sika and fallow stalking, when i collected the gun i was giving 1 box of fedral fusion 150 grain and 1 box of hornady superformance sst 150 grain. Both bullets shoot sub MOA but which would be the preferred stalking ammo for heart shooting sika and fallow?..i read alot of mixed report of sst regarding blowing up too soon and excessive meat damage

I use the sst in a 270, no problems at all but I tend to neck shoot where possible. With 150 grain bullets you should get full penetration, you'll appreciate the exit holes when it comes to following up.

The fusion are as far as I am aware a bonded core bullet. This should mean that less lead separates from the jacket resulting in deeper penetration and less meat damage than the more frangible non bonded SST used in the Superformance load. Unless you are shooting regularly over 200 yards I personally would go with the fusion first and if they don’t work as you want, try the superformance second. That said both will turn a live deer into a dead deer assuming proper shot placement

Been using the 150g superformance for a couple of years now. Generally like them but every so often you seem to get a wildcard that absolutely explodes for no obvious reason. For that reason I am finally changing when I run out. Other than that they are superbly accurate, meat damage is usually acceptable, and obviously with the superformance powder they go like stink.

I have used both , the superformance were accurate but expensive . The fusion shot just sub moa and performed fine for me , I know others who had mixed view about them.
If you have can get them , maybe try sako superhammer heads 150g . I got very good accuracy, weight retention and mushrooming .
Also fiocchi 150 gr sst are very accurate in my rifle and would be traveling a little slower than the superformance and are way cheaper.

Years back I used fusion for a while, first batch of 100 grouped fantastic, down to below 1/2". Second batch was less consistent. The bullet itself mushroomed like out of a picture book. Very little weight loss and meat damage was low. One bullet failed after hitting a quartering to animal on the shoulder. That bullet broke in at least two bits and didn't penetrate the shoulder. I shot at least 20 other animals where the bullet performed perfect.
150 SST I think is a perfect bullet for head and neck shots, OK for behind the shoulder. Behaves just like a 155 A-Max.
