.38 special and RS12

Thanks for the advice, I’ll do that.

The reason why I thought it was a good idea to download slightly from this is because I was informed that as I would be using a longer barrel, than the one used in the published data, then I would require slightly less powder to reach the same velocity as published, due to the powder having more effect in my longer barrel, resulting in a higher velocity.

But if all of this is negligible anyway in terms of speed then I’ll just start with 4.0gr as stated.
The above is correct, if the powder doesn't burn off in say the first 6" of barrel, will the marginal increase in velocity make any difference to how you shoot? Almost certainly not!

Was shooting steel plates, 158 gr FMJ out of my 12” revolver was putting nice dents into the 8 mm steel at 25 yards, same load through the 20” lever action and they were punching straight through. So extra barrel can make a difference but that was with 16.5 gr of lil gun…..

At 4 grains you will likely not notice the difference unless you are a very good pistol shooter

Update to my thread, I tried RS12 and Uniqe, the Unique had more consistent and better results.

Not sure if this was because I was more steady though when testing the Unique after I had tested the RS12, as this is only my second time shooting the revolver.

Both targets were shot at 25m rested on a table.

I’ll use the tub of unique I have now and keep testing the RS12, as it more likely that I’ll be able to get hold of it in the future.

I’d like to try Vhit powder too.
