45-70 Brass shortage

I have recently acquired my first 45-70 rifle a perdersoli sharps.

I currently have 18 good Remington brass cases. I decided to use RS14 for downloads and had great success over the weekend with the starting load, was very mild to shoot.

However I now feel the urge to shoot more than 18 shots at my next range visit. I have looked everywhere and it seems you just can’t get 45-70 brass anywhere at the moment. It also seems they are hard to source even in the US at the moment.

What are my options? I backordered some starline brass from brownells back in June and they still have no eta.

I had no idea that the availability of brass would be the limiter on how much shooting I can do! Has it always been this hard to source?

My father in law is downsizing his considerable collection of historic firearms and has recently sent all of his on-ticket centrefire rifles to Holts. I am selling the residual bits and bobs for him with the money being put in a pot for his grandchildren.

Amongst a vast array of reloading gear (in some weird and wonderful calibers!) are #62 45-70 Gov cases. They are fairly well used but have only ever been ‘downloaded’ to shoot over the club’s 25m range (9.2gr of Unique powder). They would come in x3 MTM Case Gard boxes.

They’re yours if you want them @jamtil . Say £25 inc. postage? PM me if you want them.

I bought some well used 2nd hand 45/70 cases that had been used with black powder, I cleaned them in the tumbler when I received them.

I had 20 cases that just wouldn’t hold a bullet head when seated despite minimal flaring.

One of my more knowledgeable and practical mates has annealed them for me which has worked a treat.

So I should get a few more reloads out of the older cases.

My range has a limit so they’re down loaded anyway, I’ll save the new ones that cost me £1 each for my 100 yard range.
