I'm willing to bet it would work fine for close (200yds and in) work. Past that and I'd have to ask why a slightly heavier bullet wouldn't be desired? Shooting 55gr 6mm bullets is a lot like a .223 with 40gr bullets: works fine, but as range increases, it's like shooting a ping pong ball. (Wind really starts to push that short stubby bullet around, and it loses velocity quickly.)
I don't think a 1-8 twist can over spin the bullet enough to cause it to separate, mid-flight. If anything, at close ranges the explosiveness will probably be quite impressive with the high RPM's tearing the bullet apart once it hits anything.
