6mm & SR magnum primers

I have a lot of 107gr SMK and SR magnum primers (Muroms). Also a lot of 6.5 Creed brass.
Is the obvious thing to go 6 Creed ? Or sell the 107s and go (back to) 6.5 Creed.
Or am I missing out on some new fangled chambering.....
This wouldn't be a deer oriented gun, just a target/gong basher.

The barrel will do about 1600-1800 rounds of 107gr SMK at 3000fps. The ballistics will be good and less recoil than a 6.5 creedmoor shooting a 147gr ELD or the 153gr Bergers.

In the interest of trying out different rounds I would go with the 6mm creedmoor. I’ve got one in a sporting rifle and a couple of barrels standing by to be chambered when a new action arrives that will be target orientated.

Barrels are like tyres. They are there to be replaced 😁

It all depends on what you want to do with it Mal, a 6 Creedmoor pushing hard will beat a 6.5 on wind and recoil, but will likely be half the barrel life of a 6.5 Creedmoor. You could go down to a BR based cartridge (take your pick of BR/Dasher/BRA) and get more barrel life and less recoil. I use SR magnums in my 6 Dasher and 6.5 Creedmoor and they work well. I've never loaded 6 Creedmoor, but I cant imagine its hard to load for, its 6.5 brother is certainly easy, although a 6BR variant will be very very easy to load for.

Aye, I've run a 6.5 Creedmoor before, and I think it's a great cartridge. Although I usually single feed when shooting ginger etc, I've never been tempted by the BRs, as I'm shooting out to 1000m, and more (although I've another rifle for the longer distances).
It's really just me trying to use what I have to hand.

How much does it cost to put a barrel on in the UK?

I bought a $400 6mm Creedmoor barrel and put it on myself on a savage action. Was busting rocks at 700yds and it was a blast with low recoil! Love watching hits through the scope.

Have fun trying something different. The best thing about 6mm creedmoor is using the same 6.5mm creedmoor bushing dies. I also use my 6.5 seater without issue.

You really need a FL die for necking down 6.5 creedmoor brass though. I’ve done it and it fits with the bushing dies.

I’m currently shooting 87gr v max in small holes but very slowly 42.7gr RS62 which is the too slow really. But I’ve only a 20” barrel. I’m going to try some N140 and aim for 3000fps

You are looking at £800 for a barrel to be supplied and fit by a gunsmith.

Looking at £950 +/- £150 depending on barrel make, gunsmith, threading, etc. Lets say $1200 in rough terms

Ok interesting. I take it prefits aren’t a thing in the UK. It’s too bad if not. Depending on the rifle, it are pretty easy process. I put mine on my rifle when I went back to the states to visit family this spring.

That's interesting about the seating die. I've a set of Redding S type, so just need the bushings, intermediate and final.
