7x64 reloading

I am about to start reloading for my 7x64.
I have been told that N150 would be better than N550 as its more stable in varying heat.
The thing is, I have nearly 1kg of N550.
Would there be that much difference?

All thoughts much appreciated.

I use N550 in my 7x65R, which is the rimmed version of the 7x64. It's fine, it goes bang, the bullets go where they're aimed, the deer fall over. Its quite punchy though. I don't know if it's ideal but it certainly works. Looking at the Vihtavuori tables, it seems N150 isn't recommended at the upper end of the bullet weight scale, beyond about 156gr. I chose N550 because it's fine all the way up, should I ever want to explore that. As for stability in varying temperatures, no idea but this is the UK, our temperature fluctuations aren't that extreme.

For reference I use 150gr lead bullets, now being replaced by 145gr copper ones.

Plenty of N550 data out there. I'd use it if I hadn't already started with N160 and RS60 (Also RS70 for the heavies)

Thanks chaps, I am going to be using Peregrine 140gr, the Peregrine work well in my 308 and 6.5x55.

Excellent. I’ve had good results with the 139gmx from Hornady. Which of course has now been discontinued..,

Probably try the peregrine next

N550 will work fine with the 140(ish) grain bullets. I use RL22 and 26 but typically shoot 160’s,

I use n560 in my 6.5x55 and at also about to start loading in 7x64 using the same powder. It’s all I could get at one point and seem to do the job fine - deer stalking and shooting up to 600yds at Bisley

Where did you get dies? I thought about a 7x64 a while back but sourcing dies was a PITA

I got the dies from Spud1967 he had them on the shelf.
