8.6 black out

My prediction from the beginning, lead free will bring back larger calibres.

Don't need expansion if the hole is big enough!

It’s an interesting cartridge for sure.

As a regular stealth-ninja subsonic hunter, these kinds of cartridges always get my juices flowing. There’s something immensely satisfying about whacking a full sized animal with something that doesn’t sound much louder than a .22LR. However, the bigger the bore, the greater the noise - there’s a big noise difference between my .308 Win which is remarkably quiet, and .44 Rem Mag subs which are noticeably louder.

That’s why this cartridge and twist rate is so compelling - just slightly larger bore than the .308, but which a much heavier bullet. Get the right bullet designs and this will be as terminally freakin’ awesome as the .458 SOCOM. Well, maybe not quite…

5.45 times more copper needed as a finished bullet than a 55grain .224 bullet never mind the swarf waste.
China and Zaire will be happy to oblige. The shooter will be carrying metal detectors slung over the shoulder next. :cuckoo:

Just saying...

What interests me is how short they are sating they can make the barrels. If I can get the same performance as my 308 in a shorter package that would be great. One in three twist! It must whizz the insides to bits!

Pretty sure it won’t fit in my Q Fix.
No, I think you can be pretty confident of that. It would need to be made on a large action. A donor action in .338 Lapua or .416 Rigby would keep things simple. I keep looking at it and thinking about it, but the use of it would be very limited and it may be too pointless even for me to try!

Aside from the novelty factor, what’s the appeal of using a pistol cartridge in a proper hunting rifle?

Wouldn't surprise me. Just look at all those 243W in Scotland that are facing the prospect of 100gr non-lead bullets. I know in theory there's that Edinburgh Rifles / Peregrine have that is supposed to shoot in 1:10 twist .243W but not so great if your rifle doesn't like that bullet...
