A good route into stalking ...

Best way into stalking is to be born heir apparent to a large, well stocked deer forest.

Second best way is to be born into the head stalker's family.

For us mere mortals it's graft, hard earned money, a good dose of luck and the good buggers like @Roestalker39 who keep things going.

• A couple of paid stalks with reputable guides;
• Register for and do the DSC1;
• Apply for a 'deer condition' on your FAC;

Once you have done all that you have options:

• Just go out with paid guides;
• join one of the BASC stalking schemes; become a syndicate stalking club member;
• try to get your own permission on land.
• After a few years do the DSC2
• Other useful qualifications/courses/certificates are: EFAW+F, Quad bikes, Off-road driving, Chainsaw skills, Manual lifting, Intermediate Food Hygiene, butchery skills, apply to get your FAC 'opened'.

I might be wrong and often am, if yo are going down the paid stalking and level 1 route then you have good reason to put in for your FAC as you could add the target condition later for at the club target shooting.
otherwise your on a good route all the best with it and your recovery.

I believe it would show good reason for an application but with everything going on at the moment I’m happy to just take my time with it. I’m hoping that by the time I get to make an application I have tried a few different guns and calibres so that I can make a good choice of rifle.
