A proper bait station shot.

Typical distasteful rubbish...... 🤠

Interesting, I didn't find that particular video distasteful at all.

The vast majority of boar shot in the UK, are shot over a feed station, at 50-60m, with most shot at night, with thermal, or NV.

And, he used a 300wm, & ELD-X, which is more than adequate, compared to the usual 223, & 300 Blackout the US seem to love for "hog" shooting

Shoot a boar in that spot you get that reaction time and time again, this is a good vid for shot placement forget head and neck shooting too much to go wrong but high shoulder is good with a margin for error. anyone shooting or wanting to shoot them take that shot every time, no dog required.

A tricky one for me. Certainly a great shot and perfect result but looking at the battery of camera gear clearly visible behind him it smacked a bit of a public execution and why so far? Pretty much all reasonably informed riflemen know that 300 mag will do the job and then some and at great distance but personally the video left me a little bit unsettled - as did another recent video showing animals being shot with a 50 S&W pistol at close range. Just my opinion but I am not entirely sure what the actual point is.

Feral hog .300 win mag and dead hog what distasteful about that. I try and shoot boar at a baiting point behind the ear. Its mentioned in a earlier reply that that shot is a more fool proof shot. It good to look at a boars skeletal anatomy because in they are quite different than deer. If that shot go's a little high it will hit the tags that are over the spine in that area. The boar will go down and then most likely get up and run and they can go a long way. Only had to track one boar with the dog here on my place and that was a guest who shot a tad too far back from where that video boar was shot. It made 80mtrs before keeling over in the forest.

I personally find shooting boar over feed, from a highseat and with thermal/ night vision combo distasteful, although I will add lots of people seem to think it acceptable. At least this one was in day light.

If you had to rely on stalking boar, to hunt/kill them in the UK, you'd really struggle, to say the least.

They are not widespread like deer, are far more nocturnal, but the biggest difficulty is that the areas they are found, are highly controlled, often by the Forestry Commission, and the rest tends to be split into small private holdings. Land in the Forest of Dean, is highly sort after, and woodland gets split, and sold off at £10000.00-£15000.00 per acre, so the areas tend to be small, impractical to stalk, especially as it's common to have someone "glamping" on the next plot.

Then you have the people who own, or lease the land for shooting, charging circa £150.00 to just sit in the seat, so they need to make sure there's a fair chance the person shooting stands some chance of seeing something to shoot. And to put it into perspective, boar are not stupid, and can be really difficult to shoot, especially in areas that are shot regularly, and from my own experience, you need to be prepared to put in a lot of hours, to be successful. I suspect that the success rate is something like 5-7:1.

Consequently, feed stations, high seats/towers, and shooting at night are the the only practical way to shoot boar in the UK.

Well at least he didn't shoot it 20 times from a helicopter !! Shot at a feed station, is it any different to shooting foxes to a caller or at a bait pile ?? Come to think it Decoying ducks or pigeons ???
