A question about 3" .410 Cartridges - ARE ANY STILL MADE WITH A RTO?

So...my AYA No4 in .410" doesn't like crimp closed .410" cartridges as the "star" when opened can grip the chamber and ejection is a bit hit and miss. So a quick call to the gunsmith I used said try roll turnover cartridges and see if that sorts it. Yes it does! Not one failed to eject cleanly and with some distance on the throw.

That's great. Except in both cases these were 2 1/2" cartridges. I know that with 3" with a crimp closure be that Fiocchi or be that Eley Trap 3" or Eley Extra Long that it doesn't eject cleanly. So a question to all SD .410" users does any manufacturer in the UK load 3" .410 with a roll crimp closure?

I have a bag of Hull cartridges that are 3" with a roll top (6's and 7's) but looking at their website it seems they now only do a crimped case.
You're welcome to the ones I have if you're down near Northampton / Wellingborough any time soon.

Thank you I am, alas, yes there often now as a friend has just had the left half of his face cut out and replaced as he had a cancer in his cheek. I'd be happy to swap like for like with Eley 3" in shot size #6?

Thanks for the load offer of the RTO tool. That is most kind. I have one and am hoping at present to try some factory RTO (to test the proposition with 3" cases) before altering my MEC 600 for 3" cases.

Could you perhaps look at making your own 410 shells that work in your gun ? They will work out a good bit cheaper and better as well as being able to make special loads .

In the end I sold the gun in December 2025. I then replaced it with a Webley De Luxe .410 that I saw at the Melbourne shop when I collected the RTO 3". Ok the Webley is single shot and 2 1/2" but an ejector gun that doesn't ALL THE TIME eject cartridges of the sort that you can only find nowadays is worse IMHO than a non-ejector. I have a MEC 600 in .410" 2 1/2" and I will be making bismuth loads when the time comes if BASC fail to get a derogation from the lead ban for .410". I am happy to say that the Webley I did buy actually does also eject reliably as a previous one didn't. The extractor overrode the rim. Not the gun's fault in either the AYA or that previous Webley but that the rims on modern so called .410" cartridges aren't as well executed as on the old paper .410" were made.
