Air fryer

I love mine. I cook pretty much everything in it now. Can be really good for chicken both breast and whole as keeps it nice a juicy. If you’re on Facebook there are some air fryer groups with loads of good recipes

We have moved into modern times and bought an air fryer…does anyone have any good recipes?

Also bought one as the oven in the cottage is sh!t

It's just a wee electric oven really. Cooks more efficiently so something that needs to be in for 30 mins at 220C+ in a regular oven will be done in 20min or less at 200C

Annoying bit about mine is that grease can get trapped under the silicone stoppers where the metal bit of the 'pan' goes in.

Since its non-stick coated, they need to be cleaned and replaced before using.

Maybe its just bad design of the cheapskate 4L Daewoo one I bought for £30

Brilliant for fresh hand made burgers. More so if you have an elevated griddle in the basket.

Also sweet potato hash recipes come out good.

I use mine for normal stuff like chips, bacon etc but you can do most stuff. Oven is still best for pies and pizzas and stuff like that but they are pretty versatile, quick and use much less energy than a conventional oven.

Over the years there's been a long procession of devices to take up space on your kitchen worktops. Most of them are good at one thing and some are good for nothing. But the air fryer (assuming you get a half decent one) is fantastic and well worth it's footprint on said worktop. If you've got small kids or grandchildren, the likes of such delicacies as oven chips, chicken nuggets and other high end food for kids with one digit in their age are done in half the time and come out better than with the oven. I regularly feed four after school pickups and tea is served between 15 and 20 minutes, straight from the freezer. But really, there's too many things it does well to list here. You really do need to surf the old spider's home to piggy back on the successes of others. But you can, of course get recipe books for it if you are a luddite. Although you'll maybe have to look on Amazon.

But you might, for some things need to do a bit of trial and error with the heat and time settings. Put it on too hot and you might get stuff done on the outside and a tad raw inside. The Ninja one I have, amongst other things has a recipe for making dried fruit, meat etc. I've tried that and although it works successfully, more traditional methods of producing jerky and such things to me seem to produce better results. Although it's handier in the air fryer.

We did a bit of research and settled on a Tower 9L Vortyx which seems to work, cooked some sausages and bacon in it yesterday and the other half cooked an air fryer stir fry last night that was actually pretty good!

I guess it’ll be trial and error as I look at the instructions and keep wondering how long and hot do you put (for example) frozen oven chips in for and do you just pile them into the pan on top of each other? And it has a pre-heat mode - do you always need to use this?

Certainly easier to clean than an oven!

For reheating cold pizza or sausage rolls etc 3-5 mins at 190-200 and comes out like new

Got the 14 in 1 ninja and has pressure cooker it’s a brilliant combo

Did a supermarket pork joint for 35mins in pressure cooker with bit of white wine and touch of fresh orange …. Took out the dst cap like rubber , the meat almost falling to bits … remove liquid , pat dry then 30mins in air fryer and perfect crackling and meat falling to bits

The memsaab bought one earlier in the year. I must admit I was slightly sceptical about it, but I am now a convert. We use it the whole time from cooking the kids tea to pressure cooking stews/curries. Real game changer in the kitchen. The chips it produces are brilliant. Well worth the money.

If you are ever near Monmouth, I have a spare oven on a 13amp socket in the barn you could have it for nowt - just needs a bit of a clean.

It's just a convection oven. Hardly modern never mind revolutionary. It bakes bread. Who could have imagined...

Ninja dual zone here ,does chips, pies, fish, kievs, cooks, roasts, reheats cracking bit of kit.
But as stated earlier needs cleaning after every use.

You're right, there's no magic. There's nothing new under the sun they say. But the simple things are often the things that work best they also say.
