Don't know where you get the idea that an air rifle pellet won't ricochet
Guess you maybe haven't actually used one inside a building as you suggest...?
Granted not as dangerous as a rimfire, but painful all the same and a serious risk to eyesight.

Don't ever assume that air rifles don't ricochet, As a boy I had a shot at a wooden cotton reel from my bedroom window, it came straight back and cracked the glass. I have no doubt that if it had hit me in the eye I would have been blinded. incidentally the fearsome weapon that did this was a BSA Cadet 177!
