Being ancient I still don't posess one, too much money for the short period of life left.
Having said that I shot for years with iron sights 60+ years ago, made you stalk better. I have two young chaps help me one has a spotter the other doesn't, mind you he has eyes like a Sh..house rat. I don't like looking through the things so no thankyou, but try one and see what you think then start saving your pennies.

I get a lot more pleasure spotting deer through my binoculars and they are much nicer to use. I don't like the black and white display of the thermal but they are a useful tool for locating deer. You tend to see more than you can shoot...

It also depends how you view deer, are they trophies, a source of income from meat , or pests.

No - you look at most places and deer populations are increasing and often to levels that are doing significant damage - hence the people responsible for the control of deer numbers (stalker) haven’t been doing a great job as a collective.

I’m not saying you personally haven’t been I’m saying stalkers generally as an umbrella description.

They can be all of those things - but if we don’t do a good job of population management then they quickly become pests and the court of popular opinion starts to get a say
