River Rat is a 17 year old friend of my son’s who arrowed his first antelope 2 days ago. He hunted the Gerber unit in Oregon. It is a very low success unit, even with a rifle. RR pulls a 70 lb draw weight and is also an accomplished salmon and steelhead fisherman. He caught more spring salmon this past year than I have in my entire life! With his bow, he has also bagged blacktail deer, bear, and elk. Quite a kid!!!

That’s great. Well done to him. I hunted about 15 years with a trad now and had some great hunts but no success. Good for him!

I’m from Oregon originally. It’s a beautiful state. My best mate has a cabin near Bly which is in the Gerber area. Not the easiest hunt for sure.

A sad update on River Rat. River Rat is well known for his hunting and fishing skills at his high school. Lots of kids beg him to take them to the field. This last weekend, River Rat took two friends duck hunting, both were inexperienced gun handlers. I don’t know all the facts, but I do know that River Rat was shot in the foot at muzzle length with a steel high brass duck load. The Rat is in hospital now and does not know if he will be able to walk again.
