Annealing?

Hi All,

Another newbie question, this time regarding Annealing. Is it worth buying an Annealing machine, do you guys anneal or not is there a less cost effective way of doing things. I dont mind taking the plunge and buying one if it's worth it getting but don't want to buy one just to say I got one.

Thanks

Unless you're intending to do a LOT of reloading, it would be hard to justify.

Some cartridges can be fired 5 times or more, before they need annealing, some a lot more, a few less. So what calibres, what brand brass, and how long will it take you to shoot 100 cases ?

There are people out there offering the service, so check out the cost ?

I agree with @Lateral , unless you're doing lots of cases or uncommon ones its not really worth it, I've just bought an annealer recently as I do reload a lot and various cases, in all honesty I was probably better off with a drill and blow torch

I was getting extreme spreads in the twenties with several times fired brass.
'after annealing my first group went to an extreme spread of one.
Seating bullets feel a lot more consistent after annealing so in my eyes this has to be a positive step an in the right direction for getting bullets to go where you want them.

Those Derraco ones for £200 seem worth the expenditure, that's the route I'm heading down, not a lot of gold to lay out for a bit of kit you can sell on if you ever give up, and it's another tiny cog in the pursuit of perfection... gotta be done.
Ps I was going to anneal with the blow torch & cordless method, but I'm just going to use that blowtorch to toast my wraps at lunchtime.

I bought the AGS on, simple, compact and great value. If you are into reloading then annealing is just another worthy step, expands your knowledge and let you learn new skills. Like others though, all depends on how much you shoot.

can't fault the derraco. Excellent value for money and easy to use.

One more vote for the Derrick Ugly, I used a home made version, these are leagues in front. The price is very good as is the build quality of all their kit. I also have their case trimmers, best value top quality, hardly matched by the very expensive version sold by a US maker
