Anschutz 525 cocking handle malfunction.

Good evening. Today I fitted a new scope to my near mint but old 525 Anschutz semi auto and took it out to zero in.
While doing so after a few magazines the bolt held open but the cocking handle sheared off and landed on the floor.
I understand the bolt removal requires a decompression tool and I don't have one, nor am I technically minded.
Is there an easy fix or would a gunsmith find it an easy job.
As stated the gun is mint but does not warrant a wad sorting it out.
Any advice welcome, regards, Martyn.

I used two short screwdrivers alternately to compress the spring and get the reciver back into position to insert the cocking arm, whilst I had the action clamped in a vice.

The cocking arm that has been sheared off may be able to be fabricated by an engineer or a dealer may have one available from a scrapped 520 / 525

Hmm. Had one for years a long time ago.
From memory (risky) you simply remove the single screw which holds the barrel to the action, remove the barrel, insert a screwdriver in the breech in front of the bolt to prevent it shooting out when you remove the cocking handle, remove cocking handle and then let the assembly incl. long spring slide forward under finger control. The real fun comes putting it back in but it is really not that difficult. If the broken cocking handle has sheared off flush the bolt will slide out as above, if protruding simply remove it with pliers.
You might have a real problem sourcing a replacement however - mine had a habit of snapping the extractor claw when hvs were used - eventually I was unable to source a replacement so traded it in….

I used to have a 525 I made a spring setting tool out of a piece of thin tin roofing sheet . It needs to be about 11/2 “ wide and about 5-6” long then just use the shaft of a screwdriver as a mandrel and form a half moon shape on one end . As per the original. My 525 also snapped the cocking lever . It just pulls out so no need to do a full strip down .. I just mig welded a small bolt on to the rest of the cocking lever and it work just the same .

Thanks, hopefully I can get away with doing the above
