I don’t tend to use those clamps, mostly because they are fiddly and you need to be like an octopus to get them and the shield lining up unless your super lucky and they drop in. I use a suitably sized 35-40mm thin self tapper from screwfix or wherever and drill a 1mm pilot hole in the (underside) of the skull for it to screw into (finger tight is enough).
Just use a ruler to measure to bore a corresponding hole in the shield if the pre drilled one doesn’t fall where you want it, which inevitably they don’t.
Another way which I’ve done for Gamswild trophies where there was no bone left after the traditional cut was to fill the brain cavity area with the white blu tac and just press it onto the screw. It’s still there after 6 years so think it’s fair to say this method also works!!
