Any bets?

Funnily enough, the thought that it was due to an Electric vehicle was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the film from Luton.
Maybe like the car transport ship in the North Sea, it'll be quietly hidden from the news and the share price in EV's won't tank......

“He said it would have started in a vehicle that arrived at about the time the fire started, shortly before 21:00 BST.”

Insurance company, i would like to report an accident, fire caused as I parked my car, yes how many vehicles involved”

er “Up to 1,200 vehicles may have been in the car park and subsequently damaged, the fire service said.”

😊😂

Painful if one of the cars is yours 😡

Interestingly I found some data from a US insurer about vehicle fires and which types of cars are most at risk.

Astonishingly their data (I did only look at one source) said that Hybrids account for approx 3500 fires per 100,00 sales and that petrol accounts for approx 1500 fires per 100,00 sales. Pure EV vehicles were only 25 (yes 25) fires per 100,000 sales. Not sure what makes hybrids so volatile. Assume it is heat of batteries in close proximity to a fuel like petrol. Diesel was not mentioned but I imagine that would be very low also.

So maybe it was a Land Rover Hybrid

Quote from the chief fire officer…

The cause of the fire is being investigated, though Mr Hopkinson said there is "no intelligence to suggest it's anything other than an accidental fire that started in one of the vehicles".

He added the fire likely started in a diesel car, before spreading to nearby vehicles.

"We don't believe it was an electric vehicle," he said.

How do they know ? 🤔

In about 10 years time there will be a separate car park for EV far away from any airports or shopping malls to avoid similar incidents. They will then be transported to their destination in good old vehicles driven by internal combustion engines.
