Anyone have experience of a 5” Field Boner for anal tunelling?

I’m wondering if this may be useful for sorting the read end of smaller deer, just wondering if it folds as the link is unclear?

Thanks

Good for fallow but Munties a little bit tricky better off stripping the skin back around the anal area after a field gralloch tying of the poo tube inside and release the tubes by slowly turning the bit under the aitch outwards so it all comes out in one
The smaller the deer the harder it is purely on access I use a small very sharp caping blade on Muntjac works very well doing it the old way of cutting round or tunnelling as it’s called and either wind it out and cut off the end and tie off that will come out inside or if a field gralloch has been done previously wind out minding the pee bag

There you go Clear as mud 👍🤣🤣🤣

Not everyone splits the pelvic bone. It seems to be mostly a Scottish thing. Personally, I hate to see carcasses hanging in the chiller like that. Far too much exposure of cut surfaces.
I have a Scandinavian friend who does that, might be their 'thing'.

Yeah, but it does save on exposing the old boner. A practice which I'd think was far more hygienically dubious.
I don't mess around with the pelvic bone and manage to get by without a boner in the field, nor the notorious "butt-out" implement. That said, I don't send them into the "food chain", just poison friends and family.

Thanks
wonder who was the first to click on this? i have my suspicions
looking for a serious answer any knife will do experience is the key.

Tried It a few times but the inside of the legs seem to oxidize really quickly so agree better left intact
Yep I still prefer the “old” way of tunnelling out very much less open to cross contamination purely on exposed carcase

Thanks! It’s mostly CWD that are the pain as anatomically smaller and long fur to contend with
CWD With the fur where you normally cut to gralloch an 1” or 2 each side skin the fur back and take off to give you a clear buffer area, you’ll be cutting it back anyway in the larder so no waste I always try to leave the carcase intact until the larder ie head and feet stay on cut down on exposed meat as much as possible
