This is prompted by a thread on the Spartan bipod.
I struggle wi bipods.
Shot Harris for ever but don't really like them as I can shoot better off other types, the potential twang off the leg is an issue and loading them successfully varies with the surface so their performance also varies. Still, nice and compact, I can get the height for high heather (~12+") and don't weigh a ton.
Fortmeir is great, robust, simple, easy to use. But too wide really for in the slip up the hill, a bit on the heavy side. Not taking it off the rifle to carry as I will lose it sooner or later. £££, but worth it IHMO.
Tried the Neopod; liked it but £££ and its too low for the heather. So it went.
Will give the spartan a miss, any bipod has to be rigid and stable or its not going to do the job for me. (see the Spartan thread)
Cant adjustment is great, not a fan of pan as for me the rifle is then free to move in more than one plane, and actually I don't need it.
The best bipod I had was an old F class type. Best shooting performance by a mile. A few issues with stalking though !
So has anyone used an Atlas model that is about the same width as the Harris mount, gives me ~12+of height, lighter than a Harris, non rotating legs, notched height adjustment. No pan. Seems to me it may be somewhere between the Fortmeir and the Harris.
Pros and Cons ?
