ATN X-Sight 4K Pro – SIMPLY FANTASTIC

Just purchased and had demonstrated on site the new ATN X-Sight 4K Pro.

Purchased from :- Optical Solutions

Tel. 01394 286815 company owner Cliff Ray. (Great knowledgeable guy)

Cliff demonstrated all his units, (including Thermal) in the field, so I could see exactly what I was getting, great guy, great service.

My ATN X-Sight 4K Pro 5-20x picks up partridges with no problem at 150-200 yards and foxes easily up to 300 yards plus with ease.

Tested all the units out last night in Suffolk, on a clear evening, no fog, plenty of moon light. (I know it was ideal)

The ir illuminator with the unit was more than adequate, so don’t waste your money on additional illuminators, or you’ll simply over illuminate.

Day time performance this morning simply stunning, just like any other scope.

Way way better than all my expectations, having tried and failed with Nite-Site Eagle, Pulsar 75 front units, and finally Clive Ward’s 800L unit.

This unit is in a different class.

A foxes dream over thermal, the eyes light up and you simply shoot em!!!

I’m not on commission, but simply chuffed to bits!!!!!!

Hi, !tikka here, not sure why the page won't work, but just google "optical solutions Felixstowe", all his kit s on his web site

Well thats encouraging. I almost bought one three months ago and the image was terrible. Tried focusing as it was mounted on my blaser R93 at the shop. I did like the battery setup but that was it.

Hi one Tikka here.

I'm no techy, I just want to simply shoot lamp shy foxes, so I’ve no intension of using rangefinders, video clips etc, Bluetooth, and other gimmicks, (even if they are available on the unit) I just want to covertly shoot the few left lamp shy foxes left, out to 300 yards having zeroed in at 200 with 3500 fps 50 grain Vmax boot-tail bullets!!!! to me the rest is no more than a video game, best played at home in the comfortable surroundings of a heated lounge, rather than out until 2am, in the back of a freezing pick-up, arguing all night with a equally grumpy three-man team including lamper, shooter and driver. However, I have reached the grand old age of 60, and having shot 312 foxes in the last year over 14000 acres of land, and repeated such juvenile behaviour for at least two nights a week, for over the past 40 years, I'm probably past my “sell by date” in this modern world!!! And certainly too old to change!!!! Yours in respectful Jest

My thoughts exactly.
I just want to turn it on shoot a fox and back off again.
To many things to mess about with.
I'm using dedicated NV scope. On shoot and back off again.
Simples :-D

The problem is with a 4K unit the pixels are VERY small, and do not gather much light at all. Hence the reason these units lag like hell, thats without using any digital magnification. More IR can help them get further from the likes of a laser...but they are not and never will be an Armasight Drone Pro in terms of image quality and distance viewable at night due to the larger pixels and lower resolution they work MUCH better at night, hence the reason Pulsars offerings do not step up in resolution, and the rumoured N250 had less viewing distance than the N355 at night due to the higher resolution sensor... a fact thats difficult to get around without increasing IR or lowering magnification. But due to the 4K lens the image quality will be excellent if you want to record daytime, but not comparable to real optics from the likes of Swaro, Zeiss, S&B ,etc

The strong point for ATN 4K units is there great for daytime use, but lacking at night, and thats without ATN's abysmal product support that has seen them with at least x3 UK distrubutors ditch them over the last x years, Deben, Night Vision Gear and Thomas Jacks due to poor quality products and aftercare..

I had the pleasure of being out with 1tikka last night, so if anyone has any questions you are welcome to ask me.
A friend of mine who has the XSight II and is "struggling with it" made some some enquires today about the 4K from the RFD that he bought the XSight II from and was told it is the same firmware, just in a 30mm tubed body ????

I'd be inclined to hold off buying one until a few of the old hands from the Nightvision forum have had a chance to play with it and compare it with what's available at the moment.
Then you'll get an honest and unbiased assessment of how it performs.

Cheers

Bruce

got to agree with this statement, having been stung with their crud in the past, a wide birth has been taken by me and many other until the nv boys have had their hands on the new latest bits on offer,

Blueroll, that isn't the case, but they used a lot of the same interface design. One of the nicest changes is being able to zoom with a wheel rather than buttons and the scope now powers on almost instantly which is very nice when you get an opportunistic shot.

Thanks for the info, I will pass on your comments to him.

ATN X-Sight 4K Pro Brief Update. Out again last night, this time on a dark cloudy night, very little ambient light. I could easily see 250 yards in total clarity with the ir that came with the unit. However, when I added the additional illumination of a hand-held spotter, I could near double that. I’m probably going buy an additional illuminator. Day time viewing continues to impress at all distances and magnifications, but I have discovered that in the night setting mode 10/12 magnifications is about best, before it goes grainy. In my opinion more than adequate, and I’m still really really please with the unit. With the standard ir that came with the unit, I focused on my lamp-man (empty chamber!!!!) and I could easily count his fingers at 200 yards, right down to his final gesture of two!!!! I could have shot the black soles of his boots out to 300 yards with ease, and could easily illuminate even his spooky creepy demon eyes at 350 yards clearly seeing two reflections separated by an ugly nose rather than one glow. Finally, I purchased (from Tony at Night Spark Ltd) a Tikka 595 picatinny conversion rail for £54.95 including 24 hour delivery service, quality piece of rail, came with all screws, great service, will probably buy the additional ir illuminator of them. (they do dimming ones)

Evening All,

I went to a show today where ATN had a stand and having read this thread last night had a look at the 4K. Obviously an exhibition hall is not out in the field but I have to say it looked pretty awesome to me.

I asked about thermal spotters as that's next on my shopping list and the guys showed me their Mars 384 4.5 to 18, yes it's a scope not a spotter but clearly it can be used off rifle as a spotter with the option of mounting it as and when.

Again I was really impressed and I'm tempted to go back tomorrow with a view to buying one if not both of them depending on what sort of deal they're prepared to do. Does anyone out there have any personal experience of this particular model of Mars, especially head to head against Pulsar's XQ38F.

I know that ATN have a pretty rubbish rep out there but then again so do Land Rovers and I've been driving them with no complaints for 20 odd years.

Cheers,

Jim
