Who has used both?

What is the real world difference for the newer model?

For deer Roe, Muntjac, Fallow mainly. Woodland and open plain

Overkill vs say a XM30F ?

Been thinking about this purchase for quite some time.

Would like to buy Pulsar and not Hik, before its suggested, thanks.

Funny thing is I was loaned an Xm30 for a deer trip to Perthshire never having even seen one never mind had a thermal in my hand - suffice to say I have had the XQ35 for just on a year now - i.e. about two weeks after I came back. To be honest both will do whatever you need and then some - totally transforms your detection night or day and can detect quarry at silly distances and in cover you would not even lift your bins to.. My good pal has the 30 and we have compared them on a number of outings. The 35 is certainly clearer and more sensitive than the 30 but both are excellent kit and will pick up heat signatures at incredible distances.
My advice is unless you need very, very long distance quarry identification (why would you?) I would save your money and just go for the 35 unless of course you have a particularly serious itch…..

Brilliant - sits very easily in the hand and hangs on a bungee string for easy access.

Coincidentally I too are looking at the XQ35 and the XQ35 pro.
There is about £300 price difference but not sure the pro is worth the extra.
Will see if any further replies comes in along with Foxyboys.

I got the XQ35 a couple of weeks ago I think it’s brilliant. Comfy in the hand and slips in a pocket nicely. Seeing animals well out of shooting range before they see me enabling me to stalk into them. I haven’t looked through the xq pro but I can’t see hat it would give me that the xq doesn’t.

I believe that’s correct but it’s also a £1000 more expensive. For its price I think the xq35 is great value.

Main difference is <40mk sensor vs <25mk sensor and the new models have an LED charge indicator built in.

A few stills from 35XQ videos - the quality of video is nowhere close to what you see real time and obviously screen shots from videos suffer in quality too but these will give you some idea of what you can see - all at 2x.

I haven’t used PRO version yet, but quality and clarity of original version is more than adequate for your needs.

Not sure how much you know about thermal and I am no expert but for what it’s worth and based on a year of constant use of my Axion:-
* they work best in cold weather i.e. where the heat signature of an animal is much more “hot” than the environment it is in - so on a bitterly cold night foxes for example pretty much glow and anything with a pulse can be detected at silly distances;
* conversely on a very hot day/warm night the contrast is much narrower and is complicated by rocks/posts/stumps which are hot in the daytime or are still warm at night from daylight heat;
* finally, on a really wet night I have noticed that detection is reduced by very wet coats which drop the heat signature considerably. This is particularly obvious on sodden sheep where the head is considerably “hotter” than the body - good job they are not AOLQ then……
All that said the Axion has three levels of detection but I only very rarely use anything other than the baseline “N” for normal.
More often than not long range detection and identification of quarry rests on movement rather than clarity of shape. You will be surprised at how good you get at this in fairly short order.
