Allow me a re-introduction, if you will. Been on and off here for many years. I live on a small farm in Co. Down. I keep sheep as a penance and have a bit of native woodland planted as my bit for nature. (If it attracts pheasants, that’s not my fault). Did DCS1 over 15 years ago. But always struggled to get stalking, as I’m not in deer country, and let it go by the wayside.

Spent a year or so working in East Sussex (in my real profession), and I had a few Roe with the guy for whom I worked.

I have Beretta 12G, Ruger .22LR, and Tikka T3 in .223. The guns have only intermittently been out of the cabinet over recent years, as I’ve been so busy with work and postgraduate study. I realised last year that 15 years has flown by, and I’ll be 70 in another 15 years, so I’ve made the conscious decision to do the things I’ve always talked about doing before I run out of time.

Early this year, I booked a weekend with Norman Mulvany, in Wicklow, and had two Sika with his .270 - same calibre with which I had the Roe. Absolutely hooked, and have booked a go at the Stags in September.

I’m now planning my first deer calibre rifle, and am afflicted, as usual, with the stress of which make, calibre, style…

Always wanted a Sako in 6.5x55 SE, but now I’ve seen a Blaser R8 in 6.5 PRC, and then there’s the Merkel K5 in 7x57r…

Anyway, that’s me back again.

Excellent write up
You certainly returned very well indeed, nice to see you’ve picked up the reins in something you have passion for again
Good luck 👍
