Verney Caron have gone bust.
Surprising news in a rearming world ,don't know if their clothing division is affected.
Sad day for the workers and fans of their clothing and equipment ranges.

That's sad news, they've been going in St Etienne, the Birmingham of the French gun trade, since 1820. They've had a bit of an unfortunate venture into police and military arms, and the use of the "FlashBall" non-lethal gun (basically fires massive bouncy balls...) has led to some really bad PR, because people ended up really badly injured. Also I think they were just overtaken and outclassed on the domestic market by Chapuis. Suspect they will be bought up and relaunched though. It's quite a modern factory and well known brand.

I never liked their guns much however...

Sad to hear even though only one of their rifles ever had any particular appeal to me personally.
Doesn't their clothing division have some sort of connection to Decathlon?

When I started working in Paris in 1999 there were still Faure Le Page and Gastinne Renette. Both no longer there. Gastinne closed maybe 2002? I remember going there in maybe 2000 and asked if they had a set of ejector springs for a Manufrance 28E shotgun. Back came the immediate reply "Certainly, Sir. 12 bore or 16 bore?" Their "man" then went downstairs and three minutes later reappeared with my springs. Lots of French arms makers have gone. MAB, Unique, Manufrance. I had a MAB P-15 bought from Cogswell & Harrison when they were still in Piccadilly. Excellent pistol it was.
