Out of interest on a lazy Sunday nosing about--anyone rate these?might as well try some non toxic soon since we seem to be getting our canoe paddled down that route regardless of the logic behind it all.

Be better home loading them , I had them over a chronograph at 2850

Home loading I have 3215 with good accuracy and probably more speed when the barrel breaks in

80 grain TTSX home loads have been fantastic for me, on low red hinds, fallow and roe... in the 243 I've found them better than lead on larger deer as they retain weight and keep penetrating. Got them going at 3,330 fps, 22" barrel.

Our ground has all the above 3 species, 243 wouldn't be my first choice if specifically targeting reds, but its been more than adequate for culling hinds... Last one was a quartering away shot, went right through, smashed both lungs and took the top of her heart and broke the offside shoulder, she may of gone 10 yards if that. She was 72kg on the hook, head & legs off. Wee bullet did some fantastic work. If a stag stepped out, I'd happily send one his way.

Have shot lots of fallow too, including some big rutted up bucks, no problem at all!

I know factory can be a bit slower than stated but is it possible that you had the 2800ft/s RR reduced recoil loads instead of the standard ones?

What powder are you using?

The Hornady Manual has all powders topping out at 3200. I’ve loaded up 5 test batches but haven’t yet put them over a chrono. My goal is to be getting over 3200 with a 22 inch barrel.

Just cross checked the Hornady and the Barnes data posted on the other thread, and the Hornady seems a little reserved in comparison. I’ll probably find the current loads a little underwhelming but I’ll double check.

Superformance, no pressure at all, 48.5 grains.

Thanks I forgot about the attached until after I’d worked up a load, and was going off the Hornady data for their 80gr CX which you think would be similar, which has its max load at 45.4gr on Superformance.

I am having the 80grain breaking up into big pieces , I might need to slow things up a bit perhaps ? Anyhow they are accurate . Now started loading on the 95 LRX model . I really like Barnes been on them a good few years now , best bullets i have used on Deer
been shooting the 223 and 100 , 120 in ttsx a good while in the 260 rem

Sako factory with the 80gr TTSX do 2850 fps out of my 24" barrel, my homeloads using the same bullet and RS60 go at 3334 fps, both loads shoot pretty decently but not as well as my main lead loads.

Yea I’m not sure they’re supposed to do that…
My 243 shoots the Winchester factory 85gr copper really well which while I’ve not chrono’d it should be around 3260fps minus 2inches.
If I can get it performing to a similar speed (3200) and get the apparent advanced knockdown power the TTSX brings I’ll be happy.

My 243 has a Steve Kershaw 22” heavy varmint barrel.
