BASC funds national police training to combat poaching

Re the courts. Unfortunately there is much misunderstanding and misconception around sentencing. There is a set of national sentencing guidelines, freely available on the internet, which the courts, in general, must follow. It is the grubberment who make the laws and policies which drive sentencing.
Contrary to belief the courts do not randomly sentence, though I appreciate that when we see some sentencing outcomes it does appears somewhat random and inconsistent.
Also remember that in hearing every case the courts are privy to considerably more information and evidence than the public access on social media.

Re the circle continuing, now enter a very deep debate about punishment and rehabilitation. If interested research the Norwegian model.
I know there are guidelines but it seems with regards to poaching the courts feel it’s poor Johnny getting one over the squire and a stiff talking to is all that’s required.

I agree with Jall55.
No organisations are pushing back hard.
They have opened the door and let then in without putting up a hard fight

If the sport finally is laid low, what need for "The Mill"?
@Conor O'Gorman
Based on what has been published the WWT is spearheading a campaign for a full ban on lead ammunition within 18 months in England. Updates will follow on this in due course.
And the poachers will think Yeah, So what?

Yes. The government set the sentencing laws however, the guidelines have banding and the frustration from the general public is that it’s usually the lowest end of the band (or most lenient end)

And many quote “the Norwegian system” when trying to sell the liberal type side - it’s a common misunderstanding and misconception as Norwegian society have a far more responsible outlook on how people should behave and be raised in the first place. Even been in Norway and noticed kids going to school? Much earlier than the U.K. and the kids are far more advanced in independence and street knowledge.

Then look at the city centres - no drunks, beggars etc. no litter everywhere.

That’s why that system cannot be applied in the current climate and society in Britain, it simply would not work.

Only quoted for reference to a successful system, in context.
Quite agree the Norwegian system would not work in the UK, for the very same reasons you state, but it shows a style of system that can and does work, but nothing is that simple, funding aside.

Lowest end of the band? in some cases yes in others no. The courts will always be privy to more fact than the social media account so will, hopefully, derive at a more balanced and proportionate decision.
The courts can and do often sentence outside of the guidance band.
It is said that you are less likely to be convicted by a jury but will be sentenced more heavily if you are. You are more likely to be convicted by a magistrates court but the sentencing will be more lenient. I do not know where this originated or whether there is any fact in it.

Many decades ago there was a particular patch where offenders would burgle one side of the road but not the other. Why? The side they burgled fell under the jurisdiction of a fairly liberal city court whereas the other fell under the jurisdiction of a much tougher rural court.

Sentencing is often a complex undertaking and little understood by many who never exercise this power.

The National Wildlife Crime Unit’s digital training academy marks a significant step forward in equipping UK police forces with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle poaching. The development of this cutting-edge initiative is set to be boosted by a £40,000 cash injection from BASC. For more information click the link below.

On the face of thing's this seems like a good idea, but shouldn't the BASC spend this money supporting it's member's who are having loads of hassle from the very people they have funded ie revocation - refusals and such like? This is how they waste your money supporting the very people who want to take your guns away from you.

Instead all you get is advice ie find a friendly solicitor I do not and will not support BASC in anyway.

Look up Country Cover Sport C3 and SRA (Shooters Rights Association)
You can join these two Association's for the price of BASC with the same Cover and you get a solicitor with C3.

BASC is spending money helping members on firearms licensing and myriad other issues - and working on multiple projects - operational, policy, political - at any one time. The OP is about funding national police training to combat poaching.

Here is a snapshot from 2024:

All the frilly bits around the edge are nice, .... Why can't we have a big standout win for a change.
I think the HSE dropping proposals to ban lead airgun pellets for live quarry and target shooting, based on feedback from a few thousand shooters and BASC, is a 'big standout win' - what do you think?

£1000 says poaching incidents increase this year.
Any takers to the opposite?

Just another spineless azz licking pr stunt.
The money in the coffers must be bursting out!

And some think it potentially could make a difference! Potential is not any use. That's like putting a full jerry can next to a vehicle that has run out of fuel and expecting the vehicle to start on the basis of potential! It's not going to happen.
A few coppers get a cushy day out two listening yet more bull and then just get told to ignore all that.

The police can't even respond to burglary any more unless you threaten to shoot the bastard, they'll be there then and it won't be the burglar that gets grief!

Not if you don’t have an airgun!
Where is it cited that the feedback from BASC and its members influenced the HSE on this or are you just taking the credit?

BASC should go for a grand (albeit modest) bargain

Agree to substantially increased licensing fees IF the following changes are made:
Better licensing performance - statutory time limits for grants, variations etc
Sound moderators finally regulated
Grey area around LBP/LBRs and Section 1 shotguns clarified and treated the same as any section 1 firearm

Why should we agree to putting it up ? Its not vast amounts of work to do it is it - especially in the case of renewals

First licenses should cost a bit more for shotgun and rifle due to having checks being completed.
But after five years it should not cost any more as we are checked every day by the police.
And we pay for our medicals and only needs the admin team to get there act right who as we all know leave rifles off and how bullet amounts .
And we all blame the FEO .
SO I FEEL WE NEED NO MORE COST ADDED and all organizations should be fighting this and other issues we are facing
