BASC opposes new proposals for medical fees

Getting legal advice on this complex issue is not something that will happen over night, but our lawyers are working on it

For those that claim BASC has delivered 'nothing' take a look here: https://basc.org.uk/key150/

Sorry David, but you ain't doing much good for BASC with that statement. Just tell your "Powers that Be" if they don't get their fingers out they ain't gonna have a job much longer because we won't need a shooting organisation any more.

David,
With the greatest respect you (BASC) have had 5 days already. The issue here is under the present system of Home Office guidance do the police have a right to change the process which has sufficed for a fair number of years and Charge Firearms cert applicants/holders for a detailed medical report without statutory backing and under the same guidance.

Preliminary but firm written conclusions should be with BASC now, if BASC acted immediately. So where is it ?
This statement doesnt cut it sadly, how many injunctions have been applied for and granted in hours ? That includes briefing Counsel, going to court, getting a judges opinion etc etc. How is a week not enough. Or is it simply a matter of cost ? I am at a complete loss as to the pace of the response.
Getting legal advice on this complex issue is not something that will happen over night, but our lawyers are working on it.

IF this theft from fac/sgc holders gets put where it deserves to be<gone> will those that have paid be reimbursed or will the thieving gp,s keep the money.if and when this issue is sorted we will always have to watch out for underhand gp dealings and feo,s.none will be trusted again. this country really has gone to the dogs.

I have looked elsewhere to see what reaction we are getting - a lot of people will not be renewing with BASC next season - why should they - I am going NGO or very probably SACS (nice people).
Time to make up your minds - even that bastion of support for BASC, Pigeon Watch (financial interests ?) is foaming with discontent. Not everyone can be wrong. Still 20,000 increase in membership whilst Ali fiddled and BASC burned is bound to make them safe ?

The silence is deafening...........

I hope when posted its not a damage limitation exercise..

According to information on the BASC they currently have 150.000 members @ £78 in subs for each one and they employ 110 staff. That sure is some CASH COW.

In the BASC Key 150 achievement's it states :

2. Been a key voice in support of shooting, in talks with the government and the police, with regard to several important areas, including medical involvement in licensing and modernising the firearms licensing process.

3. Campaigned tirelessly against regulation which is not evidence-based. Most recently, we are challenging proposals to ban ownership of .50 calibre and other rifles.

6. Helped persuade the largest firearms licensing departments in the UK to improve their service, including reducing delays in the licensing process, to members and non-members alike.

4. Advised many thousands of airgunners on the new licensing requirements in Scotland.
15. Run a survey of members in Scotland to provide an evidence base with which to fight unfair GPs fees for firearms licensing in Scotland.

40. Gathered empirical evidence to force underperforming police firearms departments to improve

I think some of the so called Key Achievement's need to be looked at again by BASC on behalf of the membership as some of the topics still seem to be very much alive and kicking, unlike the CASH COW that seems to be lurching through the crises with no leadership

Yes, being at the top table and being "fully engaged" may look like achievements, but being busy is not success and nothing in the list above adds up to anything remotely like a win. Been busy but failing in just about every respect. Challenging is not winning, and one of the areas they spin as an achievement is the biggest debacle of the decade. Leading to no medical report no certificate. If that is achievement I would hate to find out what failure is. Back pedalling and spinning is not getting us anywhere. Winning in court is the only measure capable of stopping the rot.

Have BASC ever actually done or achieved anything positive for shooters ?
By that I mean have they stopped a ban, stopped something becoming illegal or even changed the mind of the powers that be.

Neil.

Let's face it, BASC needs some sort of Viagra.

The viagra will come in the form of subscription erosion. Once the money goes, there will be the growing realisation that BASC membership is related to their effectiveness as advocates on our behalf.

I have to say the silence IS deafening as per above.
If no one organisation can do this, should we members not be demanding an amalgamation to protect all country sports/pest control /target shooting ?
The argument has been that no one organisation can represent everyone from anglers to game shooters to fox hunters. Well its time we tried again. I would pay £100 for this membership, very cheap by comparison with the potentially new (but in my view illegal) doctors fees.

A new Chief Executive / Director at BASC, a lawyer as Chairman and all we get is weak, watery and totally ineffectual statements. Including the meritorious - "its complex - getting a legal opinion doesnt happen overnight.

For some with the will, it does.

It was tried back in the 90's by Richard Tyce (spelling). Trying to get the BASC and CA to join together. I was at the meeting at Moreton Morrel in Warwk's and am sorry to have to say it, but the Wildfowlers and Pigeon shooters there voted it out. A very bad mistake in my opinion.
