BASC response to Firearms Licensing Guidance Consultation

This is an opinion - not a fact for which I apologise.

We will never hear the detail or see the QC/Barristers advice - for one simple reason - it does not exist - it was a chat never followed through. Ok that would be advice but 'not as we know it'.
As the Star Trek phrase goes - "its life Jim, but not as we know it".

Easier to talk to politicians who will agree anything with every intention to do sweet FA but a world away from effective action.

Lovely 'White Paper' Connor - plenty of nice pictures but obviously ignored by politicians and Police alike (despite a very heavy emphasis on the benefits to them) - the very groups BASC appealed to later over medicals - you must have known it would also fail before you started.
I see Andy Marsh gave 'qualified support' - so qualified, he never mentioned it again, no one asked his FLWEG group having abandoned HOG as he stipulated.
I think we could call that a TMLNF. (Teresa May - like Negotiating Failure).

Has anyone who is a member of BASC has word from the undertakings given by Connor to discuss the QC's advice yet - anything they are willing to pass on to those who are not members that is ?
Please let us know, even if it is simply "I'm satisfied and I can tell you nothing more". Something a little more credible than that would be appreciated though.

I am a member. Feel like a fool admitting it!

All I have seen or heard from “the voice” is a couple of news letters and a number of emails urging us to take part in the consultation. As if I don’t understand the importance of having my say in tjis matter!

Nothing has been said about anything else. I am certain that they are not going to give us any further information about any QC’s advice!

I am firmly of the belief that “the voice” does not care about its members, as long as they keep paying their dues!

The only reason I did not terminate my membership was because it appeared as if “the voice” was starting to discriminate between members and non-members when providing information. I wanted to make sure that I would receive all info. Well I still have not heard anything!

How naive!!!

" mum,, dad",,
there's something I have to tell you,

"good god son,,,, he's not a bloody basc member is he"??

 ;)

I think this is just more red tape trying to get a reason to refuse. Thomas hamilton killed 16 people with a gun fact. Harold shipman killed 215 fact doctor think they are elite fact but they will just brush over that fact of harold shipman killed 13x more people no one asking to see doctors medical records

There is an article in the next issue of Shooting and Conservation based on my views on firearms law and licensing and the white paper is indeed important in that context.

The magazine will start landing on doorsteps in next few days.

If you are interested in a chat over the phone or to visit BASC Head Office in Rossett in North Wales I would appreciate the opportunity to share views on everything you have raised in this thread.

That invitation is open to anyone on this forum, BASC member or not, that has commented on this thread.

Based on my experience at BASC over the last 16 years I believe that the common values that bind us have greater weight than the opinions that divide us.

Happy to discuss and sorry you feel this way.

Please email me on conor.ogorman@basc.org.uk if you would like to follow up directly with me on these points and those you have posted earlier in this thread.

Connor, If I make the trek to Wrexham (by agreement) what can I expect ?
I don't think it will be to see the QC's advice. so what is there which would be worth a visit.

By the way, nothing would divide us, if BASC acted more combatively and relied less on 'friends', became actually incensed about the gross injustices meted out to firearms owners etc.
An old saying but nonetheless worthwhile - ... actions speak .................

Beggars ****ing belief what was wrong with the old system plod notifes your GP you have firearms if nothing heard back after 21 day's cert goes ahead
I hope all doctors refuse to do this form crap that might make plod think again

You can expect a robust exchange of views and I look forward to it and I hope you will continue to hold BASC to account.

You can expect a tour of the media center and other offices and meeting many colleagues old and new.

We can also discuss the QC advice.

But we all know the outcome that it Will be option 2
No report = no certificate
I will not be surrendering my guns in for nobody if my doctor refuses to do this form end of **** em

OK Connor a robust exchange of views it is ! Take time to prepare and let me know when would suit you - I will meanwhile prepare my evidence.
I am still taking legal advice on JR from a number of sources.

By the way, me taking you to account will not help membership numbers or the members in general - you need an EFFECTIVE internal process for that and one which is rigorous and can be quoted
by specific outcomes such as studies, clear changes in Police approach resulting in the right approach to those who are the most law abiding.
Outlaw bad practice but not just in words, help find them. Make anyone in shooting or in regulating shooting expect the fact that BASC (will then be) robust, combative as necessary, well informed, well intentioned, honourable and ready to support criminal convictions for wildlife crime.

AND MAKE SOME PROGRESS NOW ON MEDICALS.
