BBC Panorama- SAS

Let others do it for them, namely us plus the parents bbc have interviewed and Those that have sympathy here in uk, don’t need to lift a finger.

You spout a lot of “WE”. Which all seems a little short sighted, the Iraqi people overwhelmingly wished for the removal of Saddam The Shia majority were terrorised and victimised by the Sunni minority, that’s without looking at the Kurds and the years of insurgency being fought before the coalition invaded. As for the creation of abject misery in Iraq not quite, the internal sectarian and tribal fighting has been going on for centuries and shall continue for many more. “WE” are not responsible for the actions of others, “WE” attempted to instil democratic governance and infrastructure “THEY “ the people of Iraq decided against it. Although it is holding somewhat with time.

As for Afghanistan, the Afghan people again wished for the removal of the Taliban and still do, the fact is the great western public are unwilling to watch as war unfolds on the TV screens any more, the real issue resulting in he collapse of The Afghan government is the corruption of Afghans. Creating false divisions of soldiers to pocket the wages. Again the tribal fighting that continues today has been happening for centuries and will continue to happen.

As for the death squads by an occupying force wholehearted nonsense and proven to be time and time again, yes we’re people killed asleep in bed , unarmed, running away. They wholeheartedly were generally by drone strikes air or artillery, as combatants under war fighting rules of engagement all perfectly legal. That is warfare unfortunately. Did this happen under peace support or enforcement ROE no not on a mass scale every rule has an exception, these cases on the whole have been highlighted and investigated.

As for the plan B you speak of the Plan A,B,C in fact all the way to Z was to hand over the running of both these nations to the people of these nations to control their own destiny which has now been done.

Too many people came home in body bags or without limbs to continue in to perpetuity propping up corrupt governments, the independence sought was taken and now the future is theirs to shape.

The debate about either the timing was right or wrong is a pointless one.

The world is where it is, much like the long grown old argument that the empire is responsible for the state of Africa. It is all nonsense these nations must shape the future for themselves.

History can be debated for eternity whilst the future flounders under the eyes of the shortsighted.
Thanks for posting this reply. It's refreshing to read something concise for once.

Our forces have put up with having to risk there lives for a pittance we should leave other countries alone and let them deal with it .
All the money wasted the gulf and they only destroy it.

The bbc are scum, why do they choose to believe them rather than our own military.
What reasoning can they have for stirring the sh+t about our armed forces, if the Taliban mobbed our cities they would soon be crying for the SAS to help, they should be whipped for dragging it up

Funny how those welcoming Ukranian refugees to the UK with open arms want people coming from Iraq and Afghanistan turned back...

No bias at all *cough*

There is bias - but how many terrorist attacks have been carried out by Ukrainians here or in Europe compared to the number of (so called) Muslims?

Can see nothing wrong personally in people having a “ preferred “ immigrant or refugee, personally if given choice would prefer Ukrainian, but given the number of assorted Race, creeds and colours in uk, certainly others may not agree. Obviously fully support and appreciate all the sacrifice of our armed forces, all good by me.

We train our dogs to bite and then hang them out to dry when they do what they have been trained to do ? These are dangerous men doing a dangerous job so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have.
These are kill or capture missions for terrorists not teachers, doctors or nurses. If they have done nothing wrong they have nothing to worry about. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

The problem is that in 1945 and afterwards we hanged members of the German miltary and German police for doing pretty near what is supposedly being alleged now. Hitler's "Commando Order" and other actions by his cohorts in occupied France, occuied Belgium and elsewhere against civilian "members of the resistance".

War is never very pleasant and "irregular war" and "insurgency" is never ever pleasant and there will have been people in Afghanistan on the other side who did, and are doing, just as worse. Let it be. If you can't prosecute what "the enemy" did and is clearly still doing then don't then prosecute our side for what we did. It's not right but it's what's fair.

What is alleged isn't Oradour sur Glane, nor even My Lai but it needs stamping on and stamping on firmly. This is BAD leadership and control from the officers and senior NCOs. All those implicated and all those in directly above chain of command need to be RTU'd pronto. Today. Now. If not then by this weekend. For silence gives consent and ultimately put at risk the lives of your own men if then captured.
For those who refer to the due process of law, that would not be it.

There have been many investigations, no evidence of wrongdoing for this unit. One Royal Marine was charged and convicted, later reduced to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility. There was video evidence.

These BBC claims are rehashes of an Australian investigation and the Australians have stated categorically no British involvement in what they are seeking to prosecute.

The BBC have many axes to grind.

Ah
The BBC.
A beacon of truth and light....

The law of armed conflict applies at all times.
If it was broken then yes, no unit should be above reproach.

Why anyone would believe a word the BBC would say is lost on me,but neither should we blindly accept there's been no wrong doing.

I'd like to know where the leak came from,as I've not bothered to watch the programme and I won't either.

Personally, I trust the BBC less than I do the Daily Mail or Boris Johnson.

The program in question pushed speculation and hearsay into their fantasy realm of "fact" and moral high ground, ground over which they have no right being judge and jury.
These stories ought not be pushed publicly until after a proper internal judicial process has been followed, evidence submitted and decisions reached. If crimes were committed, they'll be dealt with, but this was just another "should we allow special forces free reign to act in the way they decide" without really having proper context or understanding the first thing about it themselves, then presenting it for a knee jerk audience reaction and political discussion. It was not news worthy.
