Just to tip my hand, I do not agree with their writing but feel that this may be the least of our concerns. Apologies if this stirs up too much hate and needs to be moved into “Political”, I just thought it may amuse some on a Sunday morning.

I read the article earlier & also spotted the gaff

Nasty affair & used a legally held (at the time but now banned) pistol.

Another example of someone being given a certificate who probably shouldn’t have had one?!

Every single time a legally held firearm is used to commit a crime you can argue that the police should have been prescient enough not to have issued the certificate.
The problem with that logic is that no one can accurately predict the future.

No, you can’t predict the future but you sure as eggs is eggs can identify the potential risk involved with an FAC holder being associated with drug dealing & adopt a precautionary approach in order to remove or at least mitigate the risk. We don’t know all the facts but I’d be very surprised if the shooter had only become involved in the scene after his last renewal or grant & had hitherto been unknown to police?

There is always a potential risk in the future.
If your drug trade is anything like ours it’s pretty common for mature adults in their 40’s and 50’s with no previous record to get involved in the wholesale import and sale of drugs. The potential profit is huge and the risks appear to be quite low.
We’ve had very wealthy and respectable businessmen charged and convicted.
