Beautiful weekend in Sweden

After a fantastic sunny weekend on my hunting ground, I managed to harvest the deer of my dreams.

It feels extra special because my great-grandfather started the hunting ground. In Sweden it is common to lease the hunting rights instead of owning the land.

Because my great-grandfather, grandfather and father have managed to have such a good relationship with all the landowners, we have soon leased for 100 years.

To be able to hunt on the same land my great-grandfather did makes everything more special.

After only seeing roe deers and some hares in the first two days, my hopes were low to see some fallows.

But there, on Sunday morning, they appeared. A bachelor club of 6 stags. The only problem was that they were 300 meters away, the ground was frozen solid and there was a ridge between us

I made the decision to try to stalk.

It took me about 2 hours to get 40 meters on them. The last 100 meters I couldn't see them because they were below a hill in the forest, but by the tips of their antlers I could see that they were still there.

When I took my last step, they heard me. They started trotting away but I managed to whistle them to stop. By the help of my tripod the deer of my dreams took its last breath.

A truly amazing moment in my hunting career. A memory that will follow me for the rest of my life.

Im so lucky to be able to take part in the beautiful nature Mother Earth have created.

Well done, I bet that's lovely land to stalk (or even just walk!) in. Beauty of a buck too.
Thanks! We got quite diverse land to hunt on. From fields, deciduous forest, boreal forest and clear-felled areas (which is awesome for driven hunts and moose hunting). Our ground is only 472 hectares.

This spot I choose this weekend was a long shot. Usually I stalk around the fields for roe and fallow, but now we got different laws for hunting fallow (we can hunt them during the night with thermals). And we have found that their behaviour has changed since then.

We have a huge fallow population around our ground. Our neighboring hunting team harvested 168 fallows last year, and most was shot during the evening/night.

A man I know from that team did an inventory on his ground and he could count 200+ fallows that evening.
