Bee / Wasp Sting

Id check with a vet but i was advised with people anti histamine piriton and keeping active. Wasp venom is nasty mix, lowers blood pressure. By keeping the person active adrenaline is released fighting the venom

Thanks everyone she's not been stung yet I wanted to know what to do if it happens so that I could be prepared.

Our spaniel has done this and been stung, luckily only the once but has kept trying since, very groggy spaniel and swollen head, vet prescribed Piriton antihistamine tablet.

If on the body I was taught ammonia for a bee and vinegar for a wasp, AB & VW.
Don’t know how good the info is as I never had to use it.

In the mouth is a different issue.

Springer pup dived into honeysuckle after birds and was stung by a bee. Her entire head from the neck up swelled up and the eyes were swollen shut. An antihistamine shot at the vets brought her almost instant relief. Two beagle pups are following bees in the clover at the moment. Hopefully no repeat occurrence.

Get an Australian Cattle dog, they're impervious to anything that stings bites or kicks, bit like a badger, they even look like one.

Dogs can get over the counter anti-histamines and something containing Cetirizine or Chlorphenamine are usually the most effective.
The swelling in a sting is due to the toxin in the sting and the action of histamine, an anti-inflammatory may not really do anything.

Be VERY CAREFUL giving a dogs anti-inflammatory drugs! Anti-inflammatory drugs damage the lining of the stomach and can cause ulcers. If anti-inflammatory drugs are given over a period of time, a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) is usually also given to protect the gun lining.

Huge problems arise if a dog is stung on the tongue or in the oesophagus.
The number 1 priority is to keep that airway open if the sting site and surrounding tissue swells and compromises the dog' airway or ability to breathe effectively. First aid is is to reduce swelling as much and as fast as possible; copious amounts of cold water (or get Mutley to eat ice cubes) to reduce swelling and maintain an airway...An anti-histamine can take some time to act effectively and reduce swelling.

My spaniel got a bee sting on his hooter and it swelled up almost twice normal size. A call to the vet and they recommended half a piriton tablet. Did the trick and he was right as rain within a few hours.
