Bergara Wilderness B14

it was maintained well, there was a cotton swab put through it after each day the barrel was also in very bad condition where the throat was burned out and there was large grooves in the rifling

Well I took it to my gunsmith and he looked inside and offered me scrap price for the rifle because the chamber was so badly corroded.
Chamber corroded is lack of user maintenance.

Throat erided after 3000+ normal, still shooting at 10,000 in some chamberings.

Hammer forged is rather hard. A good gunsmith would have offered you rebarrelling options - say £700 for a new sporting barrel and not have the hassle for a 1-1 on FAC.

Just got back from working at the BSS and thought I would check out some new rifles.
Lots of good kit around the £800 to £1500 mark.

One rifle that really stood out was the Bergara wilderness thumb-hole.

The ergonomics on the thumb hole were great and nice cerakote flutted barrel.

Looking for feed back on Bergara as a brand and reliability. I know its not a TIKA or Sako but got to be worth a shout in 30.06.

TIA
I have one in .308, only had it for a few months. For me the proof of the pudding will be in 2 things: its endurance getting knocked about in the field, and the longevity of the barrel.

Of course you’ll never know for sure until it’s had a lot of service, and many rounds through the barrel.

The robust stock appealed, as did the cerakoting. For comfort the thumbhole and cheek riser are spot on. Those were all key requirements for me- but they might not be for you.

Fluted barrel and bolt seemed a little superfluous but arguably good marginal gains to keep the weight down. It’s light without feeling flimsy. For comparison didn’t like the T3x - too light for me.

The Bergara grouped superbly out of the box with budget factory ammo.

Hope this helps.

I’ve been seriously considering one recently but was a bit concerned about the 90 degree lift combined with the oversized bolt knob fouling the eye piece of scopes mounted close to the barrel (42 - 50mm objectives). Have any users experienced this?

When I was looking looking at it at the show. Tested the bold cycle in the shoulder and cycled fine several times. Scope mounts will go for a picatiny rail.

i have the standard hmr 22-250 that i use for foxing and deer contracting, i push 69gr tmk's through it and its just a hammer. head shot a fox at 420m with it last night, cant believe hoe accurate it is.
Good shooting but curious why you took a head shot at that distance, I do a lot of fox control but always aim for the largest area, I'm also looking at the same rifle as I have a slot on my ticket. Genuine question as well by the way I'm not questioning your ability

its a perfect question and i would ask the same, it was curled up in heather and no matter how much i barked or hit the lamp of it it refused to stand up so i decided to go for the head because it was an extremely wiley fox which i had been trying to get for a while. i have the shot on video but dont know how to put a video on here but hears a photo of what i was looking at.

I've got a delta javelin (56) on medium mounts with a 20moa rail, no issues. The reality is, scopes shouldn't be mounted so they're kissing the barrel anyway.

I own a 6.5 creed thumbhole carbon and it’s a lovely rifle. I’ve owned a tikka T3 in .243 in the past also. Can’t fault either but once you compare price you get a lot more for your money with the bergara. Both as customisable as eachother. Tikka is well catered for and the rem 700 footprint of the bergara also lends itself to this.
But for similar money to a bog standard tikka, bergara will give you adjustable/painted stock, cerakote and the same moa guarantee. No brainer for me

I have one with a 50mm objective scope on and its grand. Really happy with it.
