Binocular recommendations: Vortex Fury HD 5000 10x42 vs Leica Geovid HD

Hi all - looking to get a pair of binoculars with LRF, and have slowly whittled down options to these two. Any recommendations based on experience with either would be great.

Vortex are not bad until you look against the light. Range finder is very good on mine. I just don't like the outside rubber as it seems to jam the adjustment rings. We have two sets, one replaced already the other getting there. Just don't last. I can compare with friends top of the range Leica's and there is a huge difference. Price also....

Thanks ejg, useful to note. You've raised a good point regarding value - is the big difference between the Vortex and Leica worth it in your opinion? I'm not at the extreme end of glassing, just day to day use.

I have the vortex, bit lighter than the lecias. Glass wise, not much in them. Vortex cheaper. Vortex warranty is unbeatable. I had to send mine away after 18m, they sent me a brand new pair 3 days later!

That's reassuring - homer, and I understand that the warranty is transferable so if I was minded to go second hand I could still rely on it?

Had them both, Leica for the glass hands down. In fairness, I had the Vortex for target work, so the range finder was key. But the Vortex warranty is great. Really depends if you're doing lots of low light stuff.

I would never have a 10X binocular for stalking.


Choose your “neeed”.

After over 20 years and owning Japanese glass and European glass at last light when I’m carrying one item it’s European every time. I’ve been out until last knocking without so much of a wiff, all of a sudden I need to see the world. I’ll go as far as to say it matters more when you are a paying client*.Sit in the high seat for 3 hours with nothing or score in the last minute.


*Those with culls figures will pray for the right result and they will be praying the law doesn’t catch up. As a paying client you have no choice but to answer.

I’ve had Leica binoculars nearly 17 years they not the Geovid but Ultravids and you couldn’t pay me to change to another brand, personally I’m very fussy over my optics and have been for as long as I have been stalking.

if your going to spend the money to put may as well have the best.
