Bisley Phoenix Meeting

I used to date an Accountant who worked for Alfred Dunhill.

Once a year there would be a staff sale.

Staff (plus a guest) could buy items at cost.

I was (at the time) one of the smartest men in the office - I was wearing £1,000 suits that we had bought for £100.

So, when (at the time) you paid £1,000 for your Dunhill suit, £900 of that was markup.

I still have the Humidor we paid £200 for in the sale, and a nice Dunhill lighter.

The more observant amongst you will have noticed that the humidor is devoid of cigars.

The irony that I cannot afford to fill it, is not lost on me.

As an aside.

The metal, two-cigar holder on the right in the humidor is worth about £5.

It was given to me as a gift by a young uniformed officer, when she came to me on 'attachment' to the office for a week. This would be the early 90s.

She was very young, very young in service and also (as it happens) gay. Not quite sure how or why, but after the week with me - she felt confident enough to 'come out' to her colleagues, friends and family and to 'openly' life her life. Unexpected and as underserving as it was, this cigar holder was just a token of her thanks

I am pleased, that in my lifetime, I have seen such matters become almost a 'non-issue' - and for that I am glad.

That £5 cigar holder is the most precious thing I own.
I can see you now puffing away behind the wheel of your Ford Consul GT as you give it the blue light treatment!

Funny thing.

I am not really a smoker.

A pipe once or twice a year in the Highlands, and a comedy cigar once or twice a year, if I am lucky.

In relation to the Ford Consul GT - I was given a long list of cars by HMG to wizz around in.

One was a seized drug dealer's car - 6 litre something or other - looked like a "Pimp's' car (actually it was) and scared the bejesus out of me.

My favourite was (I kid you not) an unmarked Landrover with blue and twos fitted. 🤗

Don't ask...

The NRA put this out as the 26th-29th May.

The Trade Fair (my reason for going) is not until tomorrow.

The tents are empty and the Companies have yet to arrive and unpack their goods.

Ask me how I know…😣

It’s worse. William Evans have a sale on and Mrs.S62 has gone into a frenzy…
William Evans always have a sale on !

Generally for the tall rotund chaps.

And did she go on to be Commissioner?

Well this thread isn’t proving very helpful! I was hoping for a full list of attending RFD’s and in particular where I may find the Lead-Free Fox Bullets stand.

K

Thanks DB

Don’t worry about the bullets as that was another failed stab at K humour!
If however you come across someone selling Federal Small PISTOL Primers please drop me a PM.

K
Ah sorry, I only have 2000 CCI small pistol left over from 1987 ban but they are in Germany.

One chap had already had someone lift a sight off his table ...

I know they should not have to, but surely cable them onto the table.

I remember seeing one chap at a Fair and he was selling knives. He has his entire display under a 'mosquito' net to discourage thieves.

Sadly, it also meant you could not see what he had for sale.

These were aperture sights for historic type rifles so just the right size to 'lift' & only way to secure would be a glass topped case like many others selling small items.
I have no clue what these items are valued at.

It is beyond my comprehension (most things are) why someone would risk their liberty, FAC/SGC, reputation or standing for the theft of such a thing.

To be found out as a 'thief' by all those who know you - just does not bear thinking about.

Good Evans visited, and that's all! Checked out the Phoenix, on the C & G Firearms Ltd stand, I asked for Sellor & Belliot 30.06, only 308 at £88 a 100! I may have some back home he said, "Are you here tomorrow, give me your number and I will phone you this evening", which he has just done. Only 180 gn, which is too much for me, but he has some Privi 150gn which should do as well, I hope' So back again tomorrow to collect them.
What a helpful Guy.

BC.

I dropped in to 'Good Evans' too but all the bargains were apparently sold yesterday...

Thought I'd found a shirt but they'd sneakily put a few full price items in amongst those with sale tags 🤔
