Bisley Phoenix Meeting

I dropped in to 'Good Evans' too but all the bargains were apparently sold yesterday...

I shall pass your feedback onto Mrs.S62 - who is solely responsible for this disaster.

It's worse.

She wants to go back today, to pick up some items she 'missed' - she has already phoned ahead and had them put to one side...

You’d better get some more slots added to your ticket!

I currently have five slots (and one pending) available.

I have sourced the 7.62x54 and that will be getting picked up next month.

I think I have sourced the 7.5x55, and that may get squared away next month.

I have slots for two moderators - these will be squared away as needed.

Finally, I have the slot for a 45-70, and if a certain RFD is there today, I shall be coming home with a Springfield Trapdoor...🤫 which, incidentally, I will be able to hide under the mountain of country clothing Mrs.S62 has just bought - again.

The slot for a .58 pistol (flintlock) is submitted and is somewhere in the ether.

No need to hide it - simply tell Mrs S62 that you admired her William Evans shopping approach so much that you phoned ahead and asked the RFD to put the Springfield Trapdoor to one side!

What’s sauce for the goose…..

Well now.

Just back from "Round 2" at William Evan's for Mrs.S62 - not as painful (financially) as yesterday and only two more ladies Gilets in the bag.

A little bit more going on today, with sporadic gunfire off in the distance and the tents now filled with those displaying their wares.

Just what every FAC holder needs in their life:-

I did find one 45-70 Springfield "Trapdoor" rifle.

However, as this is the first one I have seen in the 'flesh', I was not confident enough in my abilities to identify whether or not it was a bargain. The dealer wanted £950 but would 'let it go' for £900. In short, I 'bottled it', put my 'big boy pants on' and walked away.

Then spent half an hour with a chap at the coffee tables. He had two dogs with him and he and my wife soon struck up a conversation.

"They are my wife's dogs really, but I have just lost her, so I am looking after them now".

I make a mental to try and be a better husband.

A final look into that 7th Circle of Hell - Fulton's (where I see a reproduction 45-70 on for £1,400) and I have seen enough.

I know my wife has...and I did say I would try and be a better husband.

We head off back to the motorway for the long haul home, her with two new gilets and me with my credit cards intact...for now.

I was there this morning.. There was a stand with a K31 snipper rifle.. major lust, however the guy selling it wasnt there and the bloke manning the stand didnt know anything about it. Anyone get a price?

Just back from mid morning jaunt...I have to say it's a LOT smaller amount of vendors this year than last, sad to see really!

Only 2 pop up tents outside Fultons, vortex and Black Rifle (good to see Pete and that his business is still going well).

Inside the main arena was about half of last year, chatted to some very helpful lads at Wentworth Sporting and it appears with better advertising numbers are thought to be predicted better...c'mon bizzers get the word out there for next year!

Picked up some bits and a nice variety of old and new to wet most peoples appetite.

any primers at "normal " prices down there ?

Notwithstanding this was my first "Phoenix" meeting.

It was not the most comprehensive fair I have ever been to, and I know some punters have travelled the length and breadth of the country to go there.

Prices? I am no expert, but nothing was leaping out at me at "must buy now'. I saw (for example) ammunition cases that were 25% dearer that you can buy online.

That said.

If you like to 'people watch' then this was the place to be.

There were some 'characters' floating about.

Of course, I am only too aware that that gag works both ways.

I have just done the maths:-

Ticket prices Total = £1,624
Sale prices Total = £469

Savings total = £1,155

Why then, do I still feel I have been had?:-|

It's because it was not spent on guns and equipment, that's why...🙄
You haven't saved anything. All you've done is spent an unnecessary £469.
No wonder you feel like you've been had.

Yes! I just saved £295,000! I called up Syntner, Wilmslow and asked if they'd still the pre-owned Wraith 2-door available. And when they said "Yes" I told them I didn't want it and put the 'phone down. Two more calls like that and I'm on course, today alone, to save myself nearly £1 million! Which I can now spend at William Evans's next "sale" from what STALKER1962 left unbought. :tiphat:
