Black hot Muntjac.......

Taking on some more foxing ground also extra birds on the shoot this year I decided to by a thermal spotter, Jackfish (Bryan) had one for sale so we had a deal and It arrived just as described and on time....(many thanks Bryan)

Looking at my spaniels in the garden is not really a field test so I took it with me this afternoon...the weather man was right with his fore cast and it did rain! My high seat offers some protection from a west wind so I waited it out until the rain passed over.

Keen to test it in the daylight was the aim as dark o'clock is always more difficult, time was ticking by so I have two field beyond the high seat which produce Muntjac. Sure enough one was walking away from me which gave me time to press buttons as there was no shot on. Lots of light left I moved around watching a second deer join the first.

There were a few geese in the field also which will give you up in a heartbeat so went back to where I started and waited, sure enough the pair started making their way back to me. I put the thermal away as I could see the buck in the scope and his young girlfriend!

He went side on with her out the way so off went the round...out of interest I switched the unit back on for a look see...yes the do work very well so looking fwd to some foxing with it very soon.

173 paces off my sticks and 700 yards back to the truck.

That's a very tidy shot off of sticks Tim.:tiphat:
You wont regret buying the thermal. Mine has been particularly helpful in locating a carcass in poor light conditions and/or undergrowth. Sometimes but not always, I have been able to locate the strike site (from close quarters) as pieces of tissue/blood may show up as heat sources.

My stalking mate bought a thermal spotter a while back. Absolutely fantastic piece of gear, and worth it's weight in gold in my opinion. I just wish I could afford one for myself!

Primary goal is for foxes as they are more of a nuisance than my local MJ regarding the shoot...
As a tool yes very good, I have hundreds of tools in the work shop and use which ones I need for the job at the time...

Foxing gets me pigeon shooting which I really like, the deer are a bonus for all the rest of the time spent walking miles lol
